과거 기억 전달자라는 책을 읽고서, 미래형 디스토피아를 처음으로 만났다. 내가 본 세계는, 과학과 수학적 통계에 의하여 적절 기준치로 인구수를 항상 유지하고, 또한 그들의 역할을 나누어 배치시켜 최적의 삶을 살아가게 하도록 한 세상이었다. 어른들은 새로 태어나는 아이들을 지켜보면서 그들에게 알맞은 임무를 내린다. 임무를 제대로 수행하지 못하거나, 늙어서 노인이 된 사람들은 임무 해제라는 것을 내린다. 아무도 임무 해제가 어떠한 방식인지 모르고, 어떤 일이 일어나는지도 모른다. 그리고 그 마을에는 특별한 임무가 있었다. 기억 전달자, 인간의 기억들을 자신의 머릿속에 모두 기억하고 물려주는 사람이다.
Jonas, the protagonist of this story became the new giver when he became 12. 12 is a important number. The grown-ups admit the children that they can accept their new works. They find their talents, and give them most suitable task to them. I didn't find the location how could Jonas got that job. Howeve, Jonas had to do that. The giver's part was big. Giver had to tell grown ups how they have to do when they have problem, and can utilize his memory. The giver have to know everything, and the every knowledge and truth can make the new giver go crazy.
There was a a girl who was going to be a giver. She had educated from the giver, and she got mad about that work. She wanted to cancel her task, and the truth was dying. Jonas realized everything. Unhealthy babies, children who refuse their task, elderly went die.
Jonas ran away from the truth of his life. Now he knew that people didn't go to good place if they give up their task. They just die, not enjoying their last life. The giver, who could know everything had to do nothing although they know everything. This was the distopia of future. I really don't want that, but I know that this is one of the way that human can go.
기억 전달자의 내용을, 음성 시디를 통해 들으면서 보니 기분이 색달랐다. 1인의 성우가 들려주는 이야기였지만, 그런대로 들을 만 했다. 상상하던 목소리로 나오지 않으니 몰입도가 떨어질지 모른다고 생각하겠지만, 목소리를 하나의 인식으로 받아들이면 자신의 상상대로 책을 이끌어나갈 수가 있어 들으면서 읽는 책이 참으로 재미있는 것 같다. 영어로 다시 읽어본 기억 전달자는, 과거처럼 나에게 또 다른 신선함을 가져다 준 것 같다.
