The Treaty of Waitangi
On February 6th, 1840, a British navy captain William Hobson and the Maori signed a treaty between the Maori and Great Britain.
This ˝Treaty of Waitangi˝ said that Britain would protect the property and the rights of the Maori against the British settlers.
In return, the Maori would recognize England as their ruler.
The New Zealand Wars
Great Britain had annexed New Zealand, but their new colony wasn‘t firmly in their hands yet.
Today, the country of New Zealand is still a member of the British Common-wealth, a group of nations that once belonged to Great Britain and are still friends and allies of the British.
