the excessive use of force creates legitimacy problems and force without legitimacy leads to defiance not submission. it was the marginal and the damaged which should remind us that there are real limits to what evil and misfortune can accomplish. if you take away the gift of reading you creat the gift of listening. if you boma a city you leave behind death and destruciton. but you create a community of remote misses. if you take away a mother or a fater you cause suffering and despair. but one time in ten out of that despair rises an indomitable force. you see the giant and the shepherd in the vally of elah and your eye is drawn to the man with the sword and shield and the glittering armor. but so much of waht is bautiful and valuable in the world comes from the shepherd who has more strength and purpose than we ever imagine.

역시 실망시키지 않음!

내가 좋아하는 작가중의 한명인 말콤 글래드웰. 이번 작품도 실망시키지 않았다. 제목에서 알 수 있듯이거대 힘에 대항해서 이기는 평범한 사람들의 내용이다. 특히 다윗이 골리앗을 상대로 이길수 잇었던 것은 골리앗의 룰대로 시합하지 않았기 때문이다. 현재 자본주의도 대기업들과 거대 자본이 지배하고 있지만 왜 우리같은 소시민들이 그들의 룰을 따라야 하는지 모르겠다. 그러거보면 게릴라전이 최선이다. 얼마전 킬링캠프에서 김어준과 강신주가 말한 반항과 게릴라전이 생각났다.

특히 마지막 Adnre Trocme의 일화가 가장 인상적이다. 이미 수많은 핍박과 학살을 당한 위고트 족은 2차대전때 나치들이 피신을 왔을때 기꺼이 도왔다. 탄압당했지만 살아남은 그들이었기에 프랑스나 독일정부도 어쩔수 없었다.

이 책의 주요 테마는 inverted U 커브인것 같다. 예전 책들에서도 언급된 내용이긴 한데 항상 한계가 존재한다는 것....가량 수업인원수나 범죄 형량이라든지...특히 공권력의 탄압에 있어서 '정당성'이라는게 확보되지 않으면 그 정권은 무너지게 된다는 것이다...어쩜 유신도 그렇게 해서 무너지지 않았나 싶다..지금도 현저원의 정당성이라는게 얼마나 담보됐는지 의문이다.

흥미롭게 읽은 책이었고 다음 그의 작품이 기대된다.

내가 좋아하는 작가 요네하라 마리....그녀가 애묘가 인지는 몰랐다..물론 일본의 많은 사람들이 개와 고양이를 그렇게 많이 기르는지도 몰랐지만...

고양이들이 어렸을때 우유를 먹으면 안되는 것과 고양이를 다른 집에 놔두면 무지 스트레스 받는다는 것도 알게되었다. 나도 집만 좀더 크거나 마당이 있으면 고양이, 개를 키우고 싶다..
