물론 아직 4번째 책을 읽진 않았지만, Giver, Gathering Blue, Messenger 중에서는 세 번째 권이 제일 긴장감 넘치고 몰입감이 있었다.
아마도 1권과 2권의 인물들이 드디어 3권에서 만나서 그런 것도 같다.
3권에 저자는 수많은 떡밥을 던졌다.
제일 궁금한 것 - Trademaster는 뭐 하는 사람인가? 이렇게 악랄한 사람은 왜 빌리지에 사는가?
그리고 주인공 Matty가 죽어서 너무 안타까웠다. 더군다나 좋아하는 Jean에게 제대로 고백도 못하고 죽다니 ㅜㅜ
저자는 너무 잔인한 것 같다. 그리고 Matty가 그렇게 대단한 능력의 소유자인데 마지막에 드러내는 건 좀 억지인 것 같다.
일단 Forest를 인간의 욕망 덩어리로 비유한 것도 특이했고, 사람들의 본성을 팔면 얼마나 악랄해지는지 잘 표현한 것 같다.
1권에 나왔던 Jonas는 빌리지에서 Leader로 통한다.
2권의 Kira 아빠는 Seer, Matty는 Healer로..
4권에서는 어떤 식으로 저자가 이야기를 풀어낼지 궁금하다.
점점 이기적으로 변하는 지역 주민들을 보면, 최근 난민 문제로 시위를 주도한 사람들이 생각난다.
우리와 그들을 배척하는 순간, 사람 사는 세상은 삭막하고 잔인해진다.
Some of those who had been among the most industrious, the kindest, and the most stalwart citizens of Village now went tot he platform and shouted out their wish that the border be closed so that "we" (Matty shuddered at the use of "we") would not have to share the resources anymore.
WE need all the fist for ourselves.
our school is not big enough to teach their children, too; only our owns.
They can‘t even speak right. We can‘t understand them.
