Great beginning but the ending is mediocre!

티벳 가기 전에 읽었다. 솔직히 티벳 편보다 그 전 내용들인 몽골과 중국이 더 흥미로웠다. 작가에 의하면 티벳 라싸보다는 샤허(란저우에서 버스로 7시간)가 더 티벳스럽다고 한다. 내가 본 라싸는 거의 북경과 비슷했다. 현대화되고 티벳의 정서가 남은 곳은 겨우 사원과 기도하는 티벳인들뿐....서울의 십자가만큼 많은 중국의 국기와 공안을 보면서 일제 식민지때 상황이 이랬을까 씁쓸함이 들었다. 종교의 자유를 박해받은 티벳인들....오직 달라이 라마가 돌아오기를 바라는 이들은 현재 라싸를 보며 어떤 생각을 할까?

기회가 되면 란저우 먹자골목, 양줘(구이린에서 버스로 2시간) 꼭 가보고 싶다.

 This is a story of a step grand daughter looking to find a person in  her grandmother's will. Shows the jazz scene in the 1920s England and Soho in the 90s. not very interesting but it's good to read on vacation.

Interesting how free and light hearted people were after the 1st WW and how jazz came to London back then.

i watched the movie first....which i really enjoyed... the book was also wonderful in its own way. 

Abileen, Minnie and Skeeter - 3 brave women who toldl the truth even if it meant being alienized from their community, friends and society.

The author writes that she can't depict what the maids truely felt..but as she quotes from her book " Wasn't that the point of the book? For women to realize, we are just two people. not that much separates us. Not nearly as much as I'd thought."
