The two sisters exchanged a look of complete understanding. They both knew this was the sort of advice easy for adults to give but difficult for children to follow.
아이들은 어른들이 생각하는 것보다 영리하다. 엄마가 해주는 말이 옳다는 것을 알지만 동시에 그것이 말하기는 쉬워도 지키기는 어려운 조언이라는 것을 여덟살 짜리 라모나도 간파하고 있는 것이다.
The class took out arithmatic workbooks. 이 표현이 마음에 들어서 옮겨보았다. 원치 않는 상황 (여기서는 주인공 라모나가 등교길에 개에게 쫒겨 신발을 물어 뜯기고 결국 신발을 한짝만 신은 채 학교에 와야했다.) 에서도 마음 속 어딘가에는 앞으로 있을 즐거운 일을 상상하며 행복해할 수 있는, 이것이 때묻기 전의 아이들에게만 가능한 일은 아닐 것이라고 믿으며.
