In order for free will in the ordinary sense to exist, one must imagine an entity--we can call it a soul--that acts outside the laws of nature and is not governed by them. Defined this way, free will is immediately linked to Cartesian dualism. The soul, with its free will, acts outside the laws of nature in much the same way that God intervenes with divine miracles.   The concept of free will is based on a worldview where the boundary between models and the world itself is not clear. We draw conclusions about the world based on models that will never be complete. Even when we acknowledge our limited knowledge, we fall into language and ways of thinking that are inadequate to the task. (p. 165)
