봄을 표현하는 것도 디킨슨답게 독특하다. 변화된 계절을 읽더라도 시인이 주변을 자세히 그만큼 자세히 관찰했기에 나올 수 있는 표현들이다.
‘주홍빛 발자국‘, ’자줏빛 손길‘을 보며 꽃이 피어나는 모습을 묘사하다니.
봄은 모든 것을 탄생시키고 새로 태어나게 해서 나도 가장 좋아하는 계절이다.
An altered look about the hills-
A Tyrian light the village fills-
A wider sunrise in the morn-
A deeper twilight on the lawn-
A print of a vermillion foot-
A purple finger on the slope-
A flippant fly upon the pane-
A spider at his trade again -
An added strut in Chanticleer-
A flower expected everywhere -
An axe shrill singing in the woods-
Fern odors on untravelled roads -
All this and more I cannot tell-
A furtive look you know as well-
And Nicodemus‘ Mystery
