로미오와 줄리엣이라는 진부한 제목만 걷어내고 보면, 탄탄한 플롯 안에 손바닥 진땀나게 하는 온갖 자극적인 요소들이 다 들어있다. 금지된 사랑, 결투, 살인, 추방, 운명의 엇갈림, 자살... 이렇게 극적이다 보니 지나치게 많은 인물들이 다양한 이유로 죽어나가고는 있지만. 중학생 수준의 영어로 나름 원전에 충실을 기하여 축약하려 한 게 느껴지고, 나중에 기회가 되면 이 책과 원전을 대조해 가며 읽어봐도 좋겠다.
