말콤 글래드웰에 비견될 만한, 아니 그보다 나은 책.
아마도 학부에서 수학을 전공하신 것 같은데, 그래서 더 좋다. '이과생'의 첫 작품이라는 것이 놀라울 정도로 서술이 깔끔하다(책 많이 읽고 글 잘 쓰는 이과생이야말로 천하무적 아니겠는가). 학위를 하신 분이라 참고문헌 질도 높고 인용도 준수하다(오류, 오타가 있기는 하나, 아래와 같이 추적하는 데 아주 큰 지장은 없다. 이 책도 큰 틀에서 자기계발서로 분류될 수 있겠지만, 대중서랍시고 그러한 측면을 완전히 포기하지 않았다는 점을 높게 평가하고 싶다. 그 점에서 얼치기 작가들의 썰과 차별화된다).
그 역시 '양질 전화'의 산물이라 할 이 책을 쓰기까지 침묵을 벗삼은 인고의 시간이 있었음이 느껴진다. 지은이가 앞으로도 책을 쓰실지 어떨지 모르겠으나, 뭔가를 쏟아낼 수 있는 정도의 도둑 같은 임계에 가까워 있으신 것 같다.
뻔하지만은 않은 내용을 한 두 시간쯤 푹 빠져 읽다 보면, 각자가 처한 상황에서 당장 무엇을 쌓아 나가야 하는지가 자연히 떠오를 것이라고 확신한다.
영어로나 다른 외국어로 번역되어도 꽤나 많이 팔릴 수 있을 책이라고 생각한다.
지은이의 '점진적 과부하' 과정에 다음과 같은 문헌들이 소용되었다. 실은 상당수를 덧붙였는데, 아마 지은이가 모르는 책도 있을 것 같다.
László Polgár et al., 『Nevelj zsenit! (천재로 키워라)』 (Budapest: Interart, 1989) - 헝가리 교육심리학자 라슬로 폴가가 세 딸을 체스 선수로 키운 실험에 관한 이야기. 헝가리어, 세르비아어본 외에 번역된 책은 없는 듯하고, 현재 모두 절판된 듯 하다.

추가) 세이지(世利知) 출판사는 2016년 말경 창업한 1인 출판사라 한다. 『양에 집중하라』는 그 첫 출간작이고, 지금까지 다섯 권의 책을 냈다. 동명의 우익 출판사와 혼동하지 않도록 유의.
