You Belong To The City

The sun goes down

The night rolls in

You can feel it starting all over again

The moon comes up

And the music calls

You’re getting’ tired of starin’

At the same four walls

You’re out of your room

And down on the street

Moving through the crowd

In the midnight heat

The traffic roars

The sirens scream

You look at the faces

It’s just like a dream

Nobody knows where you’re goin’

Nobody knows where you’ve been, ‘cause

Chorus:

You belong to the city

You belong to the night

Livin’ in a river of darkness

Beneath the neon light

You were born in the city

Concrete under your feet

It’s in your moves (blood)

It’s in your blood (moves)

You’re a man of the street

When you said goodbye

You were on the run

Tryin’ to get away

From the things you’ve done

Now you’re back again

And you’re feelin’ strange

So much has happened

But nothing has changed

Still don’t know where you’re goin’

You’re still just a face in the crowd

(Chorus) repeat

You can feel it

You can taste it

You can see it

You can face it

You can hear it, hey

You’re getting near it, hey

You wanna make it, oh

‘Cause you can take it, oh

You belong to the city

You belong to the night

You belong to the city

You belong to the night

You belong, you belong

This Way To Happiness

Way out of town on some midnight highway

Headed nowhere just drivin’ by myself

The night was cold, the wind was blowing

And me, I felt like I was someone else

I was aching, I was alone

No destination so far away from home

Suddenly I found myself callin’ to the heavens above

“Please send me someone to love”

Chorus:

Which way to happiness? Over the mountain

Which way to freedom? Just across the sea

Lord, I been searchin’ for what seems like forever now

Which way to happiness? For someone like me

It seems like I’ve spent my whole life runnin’

Runnin’ away from what I could be

Down some endless road just south of nowhere

Always movin’ but never really free

I had a dream, I said a prayer

And just like the answer you were standin’ there

Like a neon sign that was 15 stories tall

I could hear the angle’s call

Chorus 2:

This way to happiness, the train is leavin’

Over the mountain, down to the sea

The highway to freedom is when you start belieivin’

This way to happiness for you and me

(Bridge)

I’ve rolled this rig from coast to coast

I’ve seen a lot, I’ve done more than most

I was like a sailor lost at sea

But like an angel from above you came down and rescue me

Chorus 2 repeat

THE HEAT IS ON

The heat is on, on the street

Inside your head, on every beat

And the beat’s so alive, deep inside

The presure’s high, just to stay alive

‘‘Cause the heat is on

Chorus:

Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho

Caught up in the action

I’ve been looking out for you

Oh-wo-ho, oh-wo-ho

(Tell me can you feel it)

(Tell me can you feel it)

(Tell me can you feel it)

The heat is on, the heat is on, the heat is on

Oh it’s on the street ,

The heat is on

(Chorus) repeat

The heat is on

The shadows hide on the darker side

Behind those doors, it’s a wilder side

You can make or break, you can win or lose

That’s a chance you take, when the heat’s on you

When the heat is on

(Chorus) repeat

Chorus 2:

The heat is on, I can feel the fire

The heat is on, the flames are burnin’ higher

The heat is on, baby, can’t you feel it

It’s on the street

(Chorus 2) repeat and fade

Smuggler’s Blues

There’s trouble on the street tonight,

I can feel it in my bones.

I had a premonition,

That he should not go alone.

I knew the gun was loaded,

But I didn’t think he’d kill.

Everything exploded,

And the blood began to spill.

So baby, here’s your ticket,

With your suitcase in your hand.

Here’s a little money now,

Do it just the way we planned.

You be cool for twenty hours

And I’ll pay you twenty grand.

I’m sorry it went down like this,

Someone had to lose,

It’s the nature of the business,

It’s the smuggler’s blues, smuggler’s blues.

The sailors and pilots,

The soldiers and the law,

The pay-offs and the rip-offs,

And the things nobody saw.

No matter if it’s heroin, cocaine, or hash,

You got to carry weapons

‘Cause you always carry cash.

There’s lots of shady characters,

Lots of dirty deals.

Every name’s an alias

In case somebody squeals.

It’s the lure of easy money,

It’s got a very strong appeal.

Perhaps you’d understand it better

Standin’ in my shoes,

It’s the ultimate enticement,

It’s the smuggler’s blues, smuggler’s blues.

You can see it in the headlines,

You hear it everyday.

They say they’re gonna stop it,

But it doesn’t go away.

They move it through Miami and sell it in LA,

They hide it up in Telluride,

I mean it’s here to stay.

Proppin’ up the governments in Columbia and Peru,

You ask any DA man,

They’ll say "There’s nothin’ we can do",

From the office of the President,

Right down to me and you, me and you.

It’s a losing proposition,

But one you can’t refuse.

It’s the politics of contraband,

It’s the smuggler’s blues, smuggler’s blues.

Common Ground

Wondering how to cross the river

On a cold and windy night

With the water ragin’ higher

By the moon’s full shinin’ light

Suddenly a man stepped forward

And he looked all around

He said we all must cross this river

We all stand on common ground

Though I was standin’ among strangers

I did not know their names

I realized they were with me

And our journey was the same

As he spoke out loud, I looked around me

I could see they knew it too

We would cross or die together

No one man could make it through

There was a shelter ‘cross the river

‘Cross the water deep and black

As the storm moved in behind us

There was no way to turn back

So I stepped right up beside him

I took one last look around

Right before my eyes

I realized we all stand on common ground

We all stand on common ground

So many years have come and gone

Since we crossed that river wide(a while)

And when I look back on that night

It still moves me so inside

This world today is like that river

With its water cold and black

We all must cross together

For there is no turning back

On a mountain high or city street

It’s the same old world below our feet

It’s time to wake up, people, take a look around

We all stand on common ground

It’s time for every woman and every man

We hold the future in our hands

Wake up and look around

We all stand on common ground (x2)

Common ground.... Umm, yeah

We got to make it..... Yeah, yeah Umm

Common ground

I can see the light

Common ground

New York City

Down in San Diego

Yeah, yeah, yeah

Common ground...
