얼마 전에 우연히 보게 된 마그네틱 필즈의 앨범. 지난 세기말, 3CD 69곡에 걸쳐 사랑의 거의 모든 광경들을 담담하게 파고들어 미국 인디락이 이루어낸 인류 문화적 유산쯤으로 평가받았던 [69 love songs] 이후로 국내에선 썩 주목 받지 못한 것 같은데 바로 얼마 전인 1월 중순에 새 앨범 [Distortion]을 냈음. 반응은 마그네틱 필즈 본연의 필링을 기반으로 디스토션 사운드가 거침없이 섞여 들어간 곡들을 두고 호오가 갈리는 분위기.
고통은 마음에서 오되, 그런 여유를 누릴 처지도 자격조차도 안되지 않는가. 가끔씩 정말 바라는 것은 무엇인지 생각하게 된다. 그리고 습관적으로 답을 미룬다. 사실 풍경화는 추상화보다 더 음흉하고 소심한 의도에서 만들어졌을 수도 있는 것이다.
