Our judging process began with 436 titles submitted by 67 publishers. CT editors selected finalists in each category, and then our panels of expert judges — one panel per category — sorted out the cream of the crop from 2008. 2009 Christian Book Award Winners

The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association is pleased to announce the Christian Book Award Winners for 2009, honoring the year’s finest in Christian publishing. Since 1978 the Christian Book Awards (formerly the Gold Medallion Awards) have awarded excellence in six categories: Bibles, Bible Reference & Study, Children & Youth, Inspiration & Gift, Christian Life, and Fiction. Five finalists are selected in each category following a stringent judging process by judging panels specially selected for each category. Each title is evaluated and scored based on category-specific criteria such as content, literary quality, design and impact. The top scoring book in each category is named the Christian Book Award winner. 요 14:1-14 나는 길이요 진리요 생명이니

지금으로부터 약 2천 3백 년 전에 동양과 서양에서 대규모 토목공사가 벌어졌습니다. 중국은 이민족을 방어하기 위해 5천 킬로미터에 이르는 만리장성을 쌓았습니다. 중국은 길을 막고 이민족과의 왕래를 차단했습니다. 그러나 로마는 이민족을 공격하기 위해 15만 킬로미터에 이르는 도로를 건설했습니다. 로마는 길을 닦고 이민족과의 왕래를 촉진했습니다. 중국은 패쇄적이었고 로마는 개방적이었습니다. 그 결과는 어떠했을까요? 길을 차단한 중국은 이민족의 침략에 시달렸지만 길을 건설한 로마는 세계를 제패했습니다. 모든 길은 로마로 통한다는 말은 피가 심장에서 혈관을 타고 흐르듯이 모든 길은 로마로부터 시작해서 로마의 속국으로까지 연결된다는 말입니다.

로마 제국은 모든 길은 로마로 통한다고 생각했으나 예수님은 나는 아버지께로 가는 유일한 길이라고 말씀하셨습니다. 로마는 여러 갈래 길을 통해 들어갈 수 있었으나 천국은 한 갈래 길을 통해서 들어갈 수 있습니다. 예수님은 십자가에 달리시기 전날 밤에 제자들과 마지막 저녁 식사를 하시면서 두 가지를 약속하셨습니다. 요한복음 14장 1-2절을 통해 “너희는 마음에 근심하지 말라. 하나님을 믿으니 또 나를 믿으라. 내 아버지 집에 거할 곳이 많도다. 그렇지 않으면 너희에게 일렀으리라. 내가 너희를 위하여 거처를 예비하러 가노니” 예수님은 엄마가 아이를 이웃집에 맡기고 시장에 다녀오겠다고 말하듯이, 제자들에게 너희를 위하여 거처를 예비하러 가시겠다고 말씀하셨습니다.(14:2) 여기서 ‘거처’는 ‘하늘나라’라는 장소적 개념도 있고, ‘하나님 안에서’라는 관계적 개념도 있습니다. 예수님은 십자가에 달리셔서 하나님 안에서 살 수 있는 하늘나라를 예비하러 가신다고 말씀하셨습니다./ 3절을 통해 “가서 너희를 위하여 거처를 예비하면 내가 다시 와서 너희를 내게로 영접하여 나 있는 곳에 너희도 있게 하리라. 내가 어디로 가는지 그 길을 너희가 아느니라.” 예수님은 엄마가 아이에게 시장에 다녀와서 집으로 데려가겠다고 약속하듯이, 제자들에게 다시 와서 너희를 영접하시겠다고 말씀하셨습니다.(14:3) 예수님은 부활하시고 재림하셔서 제자들을 하늘나라로 데려가시고 하나님 안에서 살게 하시겠다고 말씀하셨습니다. 
 

아이는 엄마가 자신을 떼놓고 시장에 가는지 모르듯이 도마는 예수님께서 아버지께로 가셨다가 다시 오신다는 말씀을 이해하지 못했습니다.(14:5) “주여, 주께서 어디로 가시는지 우리가 알지 못하거늘 그 길을 어찌 알겠사옵나이까?” 도마는 예수님께서 아버지께로 가신다는 사실도 몰랐고 아버지께로 가는 길도 몰랐습니다. 예수님은 엄마가 아이에게 시장에 다녀와야 한다고 설명해 주듯이 도마를 아버지께로 가는 길을 알려주셨습니다.(14:6-7) “내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라. 너희가 나를 알았더라면 내 아버지도 알았으리로다. 이제부터는 너희가 그를 알았고 또 보았느니라.”

예수님은 길이라고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님은 하나님께로 가는 유일한 길입니다. 하나님께로 가는 다른 길은 없습니다. 우리는 예수님을 통해서만 하나님께로 갈 수 있습니다. 종교 다원주의자들은 산으로 올라가는 여러 갈래 길이 있듯이 천국은 여러 가지 방법을 통해 갈 수 있다고 말합니다. 그러나 예수님은 자동차가 일방통행로를 달리듯이 예수님이란 일방통행로를 통해서 천국에 갈 수 있다고 말씀하셨습니다./

예수님은 진리라고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님은 하나님을 알려주는 진리입니다. 우리는 예수님을 통해서 하나님을 알 수 있습니다. 예수님을 보는 것이 하나님을 보는 것입니다. 포스트모더니즘은 절대적인 진리는 없고 상대적인 진리가 있다고 말합니다. 그러나 프란시스 쉐퍼는 성경은 종교적인 진리가 아니라 총체적인 진리라고 말합니다. 성경은 교회에서만 사용되는 진리가 아니라 세상에서도 통용되는 완전한 진리입니다./

예수님은 생명이라고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님은 영원한 삶을 주시는 생명입니다. 우리는 예수님을 통해서 영원한 생명을 얻을 수 있습니다. 가톨릭 신학자 칼 라너는 ‘익명의 그리스도인’ 이라는 말을 통해 다른 종교를 가진 사람이 신실하게 신앙 생활한다면 기독교인으로 포용해야 한다고 말합니다. 황해사에서 열심히 불공드리는 할머니도 하나님의 자녀로 맞아줘야 한다고 말합니다. 그러나 예수님은 ‘나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없다.’ 고 분명하게 선을 그으셨습니다./

예수님은 길이요 진리요 생명이라고 말씀하셨지만 세상 사람들은 어떻게 반응합니까? 길이신 예수님을 거부하는 사람도 있고 영접하는 사람도 있습니다. 예수님은 고린도전서 1장 18절을 통해 “십자가의 도가 멸망하는 자들에게는 미련한 것이요 구원을 받는 우리에게는 하나님의 능력이라.”고 말씀하셨습니다. 멸망당할 사람은 예수님의 십자가를 어리석게 보고 거부하게 되지만 구원받을 사람은 능력으로 보고 영접하게 됩니다. 하나님은 누가복음 23장을 통해서 예수님과 두 명의 행악 자가 십자가에 달렸는데 하나는 예수님에게 “네가 그리스도가 아니냐? 너와 우리를 구원하라.”고 비방했으나(거부했으나), 다른 하나는 비방한 행악 자를 꾸짖고 예수님에게 “예수여, 당신의 나라에 임하실 때에 나를 기억하소서.”하고 영접하였습니다. 그 결과는 어떻게 되었을까요? 예수님께서 행악 자에게 “내가 진실로 네게 이르노니 오늘 네가 나와 함께 낙원에 있으리라.”고 축복하셨습니다. 예수님을 영접한 행악 자는 영원한 생명을 누리게 되었습니다.

예수님은 하늘나라로 가는 유일한 길입니다. 길을 막은 중국이 쇠퇴했듯이 하나님께로 가는 길을 막으면 영원히 멸망하게 됩니다. 그러나 길을 열은 로마가 흥왕했듯이 하나님께로 가는 길을 열면 영원한 생명을 얻게 됩니다. 며칠 전 감리사 이취임식에 참석하느라 부산 삼남연회 본부에 다녀왔는데 하이패스 차량단말기를 설치하니까 고속도로 요금소를 지날 때 통행료 때문에 정체하지 않고 무선으로 계산되기 때문에 빠르게 통과할 수 있었습니다. 저는 천국으로 가는 하이패스는 예수님이라고 확신합니다. 저와 여러분은 길이요 진리요 생명이신 예수님을 믿어 천국으로 ‘하이패스’ 해야 하겠습니다.

요 11:17-44 나는 부활이요 생명이니

세상 사람들은 한번 태어나서 한번 죽는다고 생각합니다. 세상 사람들은 ‘노세 노세 젊어서 노세 늙어지면 못노나니’ 노래를 부르며 현세적인 만족을 추구합니다. 세상 사람들은 인생을 즐기며 살려고 합니다. 그러나 성경은 사람은 한번 태어나서 두 번 죽는다고 말씀합니다. 하나님은 “한번 죽는 것은 사람에게 정해진 것이요 그 후에는 심판이 있으리니(히9:27)”라고 말씀합니다. 성경은 사람이 육체적으로 한번 태어나면 육체적으로 한번 죽고 영적으로도 또 한 번 죽는데 유황불이 활활 타오르는 불 못에 던져져 영원토록 밤낮으로 괴로움을 당한다고 말씀합니다.(계20:10) 그러나 예수님을 구세주로 영접하는 사람은 육체적으로 잠을 자다가 예수님이 다시 오시는 날 깨어나게 됩니다. 예수님은 나사로를 시범 케이스로 보여주셨습니다.

이스라엘의 성인 남자는 매 년 세 차례 절기를 지키기 위해 예루살렘을 방문했습니다.(출23:14) 예수님은 예루살렘에 갈 때마다 동쪽으로 3Km 떨어진 베다니 마을에 들르셨습니다. 베다니 마을에는 오빠 나사로, 언니 마르다, 동생 마리아 삼남매가 살고 있었습니다. 언니인 마르다는 예수님을 집으로 영접하고 음식을 장만하느라 눈코 뜰 새 없이 바빴습니다. 오빠인 나사로는 예종이 수님의 발을 물로 닦아주면 예수님의 머리에 감람유를 붓고 볼에 입을 맞추고 포옹을 하고 귀한 손님으로 환영하였습니다. 동생인 마리아는 예수님의 발치에 앉아 정신을 빼놓고 말씀을 들었습니다. 삼남매는 예수님을 존경하였고 예수님도 삼남매를 사랑하셨습니다. 그러던 어느 날 오빠인 나사로가 시름시름 앓기 시작했습니다. 마르다와 마리아는 오빠가 병들었으니 고쳐달라고 예수님께 전갈을 보냈습니다. 그러나 예수님은 나사로의 병은 죽을병이 아니라 하나님의 영광을 드러낼 병이라며 달려가지 않으셨습니다. 나사로는 그만 죽고 말았습니다. 이스라엘은 더운 나라라 시신이 빨리 부패하기 때문에 당일 장을 치렀습니다. 이스라엘 사람들은 산 중턱에 석회암 바위를 파서 동굴 무덤을 만들었습니다. 사람이 죽으면 시신을 물로 깨끗이 씻기고 냄새가 나지 않도록 향유를 바르고 천으로 둘둘 감싸고 세마포 수의를 입혔습니다. 동굴 무덤은 맷돌같이 둥근 돌로 굴려서 막고 시루떡을 찔 때 김이 새지 않도록 밀가루로 붙이듯이 점토로 동굴 틈새를 봉인하였습니다. 일 년이 지나 살이 썩으면 무덤 문을 열고 들어가 뼈를 추려서 유골함에 넣고 무덤 벽에 있는 납골당에 넣었습니다. 이스라엘 사람들은 일주일 동안 조문을 받았습니다. 상가는 조문하는 것을 마땅하게 여겼기 때문에 조문객들로 북적였고 큰소리로 우는 것을 당연하게 여겼기 때문에 일당을 받고 우는 사람들로 시끄러웠습니다.

예수님은 나사로가 죽은 지 나흘째 되는 날 마르다와 마리아에게 오셨습니다.(요11:17) 이스라엘 사람들은 사람이 죽으면 영혼이 삼일 동안 무덤 주위에 머문다고 생각하였습니다. 나사로는 나흘이 지났기 때문에 완전히 죽었다고 생각되었습니다. 마르다와 마리아는 그동안 의지하며 살던 오빠가 갑자기 죽자 충격에서 헤어나지 못했습니다. 마르다와 마리아는 예수님이 조문을 오셨다는 소식을 들었습니다. 언니인 마르다가 예수님을 영접하며 아쉬움을 토로했습니다. “주께서 여기 계셨더라면 내 오라버니가 죽지 아니하였겠나이다.”(11:21) 마르다는 예수님이 오빠를 살려주시지 않아 못내 아쉬웠습니다. 예수님이 마르다를 위로하셨습니다. “네 오라비가 다시 살아나리라.”(11:23) 예수님은 나사로가 다시 살아난다고 말씀하셨습니다. 마르다는 오빠가 다시 살아난다고 믿었습니다. “마지막 날 부활 때에는 다시 살아날 줄을 내가 아나이다.”(11:24) 마르다는 오빠가 나중에 부활할 것이라 생각하였으나 예수님은 지금 다시 살아날 것이라고 말씀하셨습니다. “나는 부활이요 생명이니 나를 믿는 자는 죽어도 살겠고 무릇 살아서 나를 믿는 자는 영원히 죽지 아니하리니 이것을 네가 믿느냐.”(11:25-26) 예수님은 부활이라고 말씀하셨습니다. 부활이신 예수님을 믿는 자는 죽어도 살아난다고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님은 생명이라고 말씀하셨습니다. 생명이신 예수님을 살아서 믿는 자는 영원히 죽지 않는다고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님은 동생인 마리아를 부르셨습니다. 마리아도 아쉬움을 쏟아냈습니다. “주께서 여기 계셨더라면 내 오라버니가 죽지 아니하였겠나이다.”(11:32) 마리아도 예수님이 계셨더라면 오빠가 죽지 않았을 것이라고 아쉬워했습니다. 예수님은 나사로의 무덤이 어디 있느냐고 물으셨습니다. 예수님은 나사로의 무덤으로 가면서 눈물을 흘리셨습니다. 예수님이 마르다와 마리아가 우는 모습을 보시고 불쌍히 여기셔서 우셨는지 아니면 믿음이 없이 행동하는 모습을 보시고 안타까워서 우셨는지 알 수 없지만 예수님도 감정이 북받쳐서 눈물을 흘리셨습니다.(11:35) 나사로의 무덤에 이르자 시신 썩는 냄새가 새어나왔습니다. 예수님은 무덤 문을 열라고 말씀하셨습니다. 마르다는 썩는 냄새가 진동한다고 정색하였습니다. 예수님은 마르다를 보시고 “네가 믿으면 하나님의 영광을 보리라 하지 아니하였느냐?”(11:40) 물으시고, 눈을 들어 하늘을 우러르시고 “아버지여, 내 말을 들으신 것을 감사하나이다. 항상 내 말을 들으시는 줄을 내가 알았나이다. 그러나 이 말씀 하옵는 것은 둘러선 무리를 위함이니 곧 아버지께서 나를 보내신 것을 그들로 믿게 하려 함이니 이다.”하고 기도하시고, 무덤을 향해 “나사로야, 나오라!”고 부르셨습니다.(11:43) 사람들은 예수님의 얼굴과 동굴 무덤을 번갈아 바라봤습니다. 죽었던 나사로가 손과 발을 베로 동인 채 걸어 나왔습니다. 나사로는 중국 귀신인 강시가 손을 앞으로 내밀고 콩콩 뛰듯이 손과 발이 묶였기 때문에 깡충깡충 뛰면서 나오지 않았나 생각됩니다. 예수님은 나사로를 풀어 놓아 다니게 하라고 이르셨습니다.(11:44) 나사로를 풀어주자 썩어서 흐물흐물하던 살결이 건강한 사람처럼 팽팽하게 회복되었습니다.

예수님은 죽었던 나사로를 살리시면서 예수님이 생명과 죽음을 다스리는 권세가 있다고 보여주셨습니다. 사람이 귀로 들어서 얻은 지식은 30%, 눈으로 보고 얻은 지식은 50%, 손으로 만져 보고 얻은 지식은 80%가 기억된다고 합니다.(한국학교발명협회 발명의 길잡이 365일) 예수님은 말이 아니라 행동으로 예수님이 부활이기 때문에 예수님을 믿는 자는 죽어도 살아나고 예수님은 생명이기 때문에 살아서 예수님을 믿는 자는 영원히 죽지 않는다고 보여주셨습니다. 예수님은 나사로를 살리시면서 예수님도 죽었다가 다시 살아날 것이라고 예시하셨습니다. 예수님은 죽은 자 가운데 다시 살아나시어 죽었다가 살아난 사람의 첫 열매가 되셨습니다.(고전15:20) 아담의 불순종으로 인해 죽음이 찾아왔지만 예수님의 순종으로 인해 생명이 찾아오게 되었습니다. 예수님은 나사로를 살리시면서 우리도 예수님을 믿다가 죽으면 다시 살아날 것이라고 알려주셨습니다. 우리는 예수님이 다시 오시는 날 죽음의 잠에서 깨어나 생명의 아침을 맞이하게 됩니다. 우리는 예수님의 죽음과 부활을 믿어-두 번 태어나서 한 번 죽어야-육체적으로 잠자야 하겠습니다.
