9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, be-cause God‘s seed remains in them; they cannot go onsinning, because they have been born of God. 9 Those who have been born into God‘s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God‘s life is in them. So they can‘t keep on sinning, because they are chil-dren of God. - P121
In the Father‘s great love, He calls us children of God. When Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. He appeared so that Hemight take away our sins.
There is no sin in Him, and no one who lives in Himkeeps on sinning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy thedevil‘s work. - P121
It is easy for us to take for granted our identity as children of God, soJohn emphatically restates: "And that is what we are!" Because we aretruly born again, we can live holy lives in the present, guided by thefuture hope of seeing Jesus. - P122
This hope helps keep us pure as we lookforward to becoming what God promises we will become. - P122
We willpossess glorified bodies, and we will be conformed to the image of ourSavior. - P122
Therefore, it would be utter foolishness to continue to sin anddeny our true identity. Indeed, this passage reminds us of the essentialmessage of Christmas: Jesus stooped down in grace to become a childso that we might become children of the Lord Most High. - P122
The devil seeks to steal, kill, and destroy. He tempts people to sin andthen accuses them when they fall. - P122
But when Jesus was born and placedin that manger in Bethlehem, He initiated a mission to utterly destroythe works of the devil. - P155
Through Christ‘s life, death, and resurrection, we can claim victory in our walk with God, reject the devil‘s lies, andrender him powerless. - P122
When we sin, let us never forget what Christ haswon for us. Because Jesus has defeated the devil, we have thethrough God‘s Spirit, to emulate our Father, just like any loving childpower, would do. - P122
And since our Father is love, we imitate Him well when welove one another. - P122
