Character driven fantasy young adult novel 을 좋아하는 사람이라면 Knightmare Arcanist를 추천하고프다.
주인공 Volke Savan은 gravedigger이다. 자신이 처한 상황, 신분에 국한되어 살지 않고, trying something new out of his life를 하려고 무던히 노력을 하며 성장한다.
저자 Shami 가 만든 세계, magical system에는 arcanist 와 eladris (magical companions)가 있는데 stong bond 해서 살아가는 heroic journey를 그린다. Harry Potter가 전 세계 많은 사람들에게 용기와 공감을 주었든, 이 책 역시 등장인물들을 통해 함께 성장하는 경험을 할 것 같다. 특히 청소년들에게 재미있고 교훈적이고 신비로운 세계를 맛볼 수 있어 추천하고 싶다. 아들을 위해 꼭 소장하고 싶은 책이다.
arcanie 은 mysterious 란 뜻을 가지고 있는데,
arcanist는 A craftsman who has knowledge of a manufacturing secret라고 단어 뜻이 나와 있다.
이 책에서의 arcanist는 a hero who can control a magical power로 볼 수 있다.
magical creatures와 bonding을 해서 special power를 공조하게 사람을 뜻한다.
Volke와 a knightmare named Luthair 가 bonding을 한 케이스랄까.
등장하는 많은 creatures로 상상력이 많이 필요하여 더 재미있는, how magic is manifested is broken into numerous categories and discussed at length.
재미있다.
