One of Germany's leading contemporary artists, Thomas Ruff has created a number of photographs in response to Mies van der Rohe's buildings especially for the exhibition. d.p.b.08, 2000/2002 takes as its subject Mies' most famous building, the German Pavilion at Barcelona.
"When Mies' German Pavilion was built for the 1929 International Exposition, it must have looked like a UFO had landed in Barcelona. Speed in photography is always blurry, and my picture of the German Pavilion looks like a high-speed locomotive - modernity arriving at the train station of the present.'"
