When God‘sSpirit moves among His people, empowering them as His witnesses,
others will notice. Their responses, however, are always mixed. Somerespond in wonder, recognizing that something divine is happening.
Others react cynically, explaining away divine empowerment as a cheapparlor trick or as the behavior of people who are not in their rightminds.  - P108

The gospel message will not always be welcomed or accepted.
Our responsibility as disciples is to seek the empowering of the Spirit aswe testify to the good news of Christ.  - P108

This passage serves as a bridge between the ascension of Jesus and theoutpouring of the Holy Spirit. Two things stand out.  - P104

First, we learnthat Jesus‘ brothers are now among His disciples. The brother theyrejected as Messiah during His lifetime on earth is now their Lord.  - P104

Thesecond and often overlooked fact is that this small circle of disciplesmakes up what would later become the Early Church.  - P104

At first, thisgroup of a hundred and twenty men and women is all that is left ofJesus‘ followers. But from these humble beginnings, God will raiseupa mighty, Spirit-empowered people.  - P104

Jesus tells the disciples to wait untilthey are baptized by the Holy Spirit. Once Jesus is taken up, an angel tells thedisciples that just as He went up, He will come back. - P99

Luke makes a summary statement of how his first letter ended. The dis-ciples are told to wait for the promised Holy Spirit who would empowerthem for their mission to be witnesses of Jesus to their known worlds.

On one hand, the story of redemption is finished and on the other, ithas only just begun. It is finished in the sense that victory over sin hasbeen completed through Jesus‘ death and resurrection, but it is just thebeginning in the sense that the church will now carry this news to theworld as it declares what Jesus has accomplished.  - P100

Christians today aretasked with the same mission as the disciples in the book of Acts. Wehave heard the good news of the completed work of Christ, and ourwork of proclaiming this good news will continue until He returns.

Extreme poverty has led to many children becoming orphanedand exploited. Christianity was introduced to Togo in the fifteenth century, and the churchhas experienced significant growth in recent decades, across all denominations.  - P100

unity among churches has been hard to achieve. The people of Togo are open and responsiveto the gospel and there are many ministry opportunities, but sadly workers are still scarce. - P100
