John 1:38-39 NLT
[38] Jesus looked around and saw them following. "What do you want?" he asked them. They replied, "Rabbi" (which means "Teacher"), "where are you staying?" [39] "Come and see," he said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place where he was staying, and they remained with him the rest of the day.
- P190

22"‘But if without enmity someone suddenly pushes another or throws something at them unintentionally

23or, without seeing them, drops on them a stone heavy enough to kill them, and they die, then since that other person was not an enemy and no harm was intended,

24the assembly must judge between the accused and the avenger of blood according to these regulations.

25The assembly must protect the one accused of murder from the avenger of blood and send the accused back to the city of refuge to which they fled. The accused must stay there until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.

- P62

30"‘Anyone who kills a person is to be put to death as a murderer only on the testimony of witnesses. But no one is to be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.

31"‘Do not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer, who deserves to die. They are to be put to death. - P63

While the Law shows no mercy to those who intentionally kill another, God grants mercy to those who unintentionally cause the death of another. - P64

If such an incident occurs, the accused must flee to one of the cities of refuge, and the assembly is to protect them from the avenger of blood. If it is determined that the death was unintentional, they must remain in the city of refuge until the death of the high priest. - P64

Every life created by God is precious, so the Law demands a life for a life that was intentionally taken. However, God shows mercy to those who cause harm by accident, ensuring their protection from further retribution. - P64

Justice and mercy are both part of God’s character and both are evident in His commands. - P64

Heavenly Father, I praise You for Your mercy and justice. - P65

Please forgive me for my intentional and unintentional sins, and grant me the wisdom and strength to live in a way that displays Your mercy and justice. In Jesus’ name, amen. - P64

The author explains laws for unintentional killing. If a person kills withouthatred, the congregation judges the case. If the person is innocent, theymust stay in a city of refuge until the high priest dies.  - P63

Murderers face execu-tion because bloodshed defiles the land, which can only be cleansed by themurderer‘s death. - P63

Although God shows mercy to the accused by allowing them to stay safelyin a city of refuge, it does not mean that He disregards the death theycaused.  - P64

While the city of refuge grants them life, they are restricted fromleaving its boundaries until the death of the high priest. This not only protects them but also prevents further bloodshed in the nation.  - P64

For the samepurpose, intentional murderers are to be put to death. No ransom can beaccepted for their lives. These laws are given to prevent the land from beingpolluted or defiled by bloodshed, because it is where the Lord dwellsHis people.  - P64

Because God dwells among them, God‘s people are to be carefulto practice both mercy and justice. - P64

A non-Christian friend once asked me, "You go to church every Sunday torepent, right?" I replied, "Not just on Sundays; we ask for forgiveness everyday." Whether our sin is big or small, intentional or unintentional, involv-ing other persons or just ourselves, receiving God‘s mercy does not absolveus of responsibility.  - P65

We must acknowledge, accept, and take responsibilityfor the damage our sins cause. God‘s mercy isn‘t a free pass to continue insin; it frees us to live in a way that upholds His justice. - P65

Luke 11:10 NLT
[10] For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. - P188

Matthew 11:28 NLT
[28] Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. - P189

Even today, punishment for involuntary manslaughter is less severe than punishment for murder. For the Israelites, six cities are to be refuge cities specifically reserved for those accused of this type of manslaughter. - P60

God does not require the life of someone who has unintentionally taken another. In His grace, God prevents further shedding of blood for cases where the victim’s family might want to exact revenge on one who has unintentionally taken a life. - P60

God not only sees outward actions but knows the intentions of the heart. He knows that in this fallen world, there are not only intentional sins, but unintentional accidents as well. - P60

One way God demonstrates His grace is by making a way for sinful people to be able to live in community with other sinful people. - P60

11select some towns to be your cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone accidentally may flee.

12They will be places of refuge from the avenger, so that anyone accused of murder may not die before they stand trial before the assembly.

13These six towns you give will be your cities of refuge.

- P58

17Or if anyone is holding a stone and strikes someone a fatal blow with it, that person is a murderer; the murderer is to be put to death.

18Or if anyone is holding a wooden object and strikes someone a fatal blow with it, that person is a murderer; the murderer is to be put to death.

19The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death; when the avenger comes upon the murderer, the avenger shall put the murderer to death. - P59

20If anyone with malice aforethought shoves another or throws something at them intentionally so that they die

21or if out of enmity one person hits another with their fist so that the other dies, that person is to be put to death; that person is a murderer. The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when they meet. - P59

Though grace is given in a case of unintentional manslaughter, God will nottolerate the intentional taking of a human life. Some evidences to intentionality are listed. If a person strikes another using any tools or objects thatcould kill, that person is to be treated as a murderer.  - P60

The avenger of blood,
usually a near relative, has the right to exact vengeance. This may seem likea harsh right to condone, but it ultimately points to the seriousness of sinand the preciousness of life. Evil must be punished and uprooted fromamong the people of God.  - P60

Our many sins against God were also deservingof righteous vengeance. A life was the payment, but instead of ours, the lifeof God‘s Son was given. What an amazing grace! - P60

Father, I remember that I deserved death for my many sins. - P61

But I also remember that a life was given on my behalf. - P61

Jesus, His life, His death, and His resurrection are mine through faith. Cement my thoughts in this truth always. In Jesus’ name, amen. - P61

누가복음서 11:9 RNKSV
[9] "And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. - P188
