그러므로 만군의 하나님 여호와께서이와 같이 말씀하시니라너희가 이 말을 하였은즉 볼지어다내가 네 입에 있는 나의 말을 불이 되게 하고이 백성을 나무가 되게 하여 불사르리라 렘 5:14이 말씀을 통해 미처꿈꾸지 못했던 부르심이 열리기 시작했다. 삶의 지평이 새롭게 펼쳐지는 듯했다. 하나님께서는 이 말씀과 함께 강력한 내적 음성을 주셨다. - P59

하지만 하나님께서는 나의 궁극적인 부르심이 교회로 향한다고 말씀하셨다. 이 시대를 향한 하나님의 대안이 교회 위에 있으며, 그분은 교회를 통해 일하시고, 선교 단체는 교회를 돕기 위해 존재한다고 하셨다. - P59

청년들에게 도전하고 싶은 것이 바로 이거다. 청년의 시기는 그어느 때보다도 하나님 앞에 엎드려 자신의 인생을 향한 그분의계획과 인도하심을 여쭈어야 한다. 전능하신 분께 엎드려 있다보면 인생을 배운다. 그분의 보좌 위에서 우리 삶을 내려다볼 수있다. 이 엎드림으로 인생의 내력을 키우고 약속에 대한 응답과 확신으로 내공을 쌓는다. - P61

어느 날, 수많은 인재를 배출한 바이올린 명강사에게 음악 영재가 되기 위해 가장 필요한 게 무엇이냐고 물었다가 의외의 답을 들었다. 그것은 ‘적기 교육‘이었다.
천부적인 재능이나 끈질긴 노력 등의 이상적인 답이 나올 줄 알았는데, 적기 교육이야말로 영재에게 필요한 재능과 노력을 현실적으로 앞지를 수 있는 열쇠라는 게 놀라웠다. 그뿐 아니라 아무리 탁월한 재능이 있고 노력을 쏟아도 적절한 시기의 교육을 놓치면 결코 이르기 힘든 단계가 있다는 걸 깨달았다.

그렇다면 ‘영혼의 적기 교육‘은 언제 해야 할까? 늦어도 청년의때에 완성돼야 한다. 이때 인생에서 가장 중요한 ‘영적 태도‘를 배워야 한다. 그런데 이는 딱 한 가지 본질만 인식하면 자동으로갖춰진다.
"모든 것이 하나님께 달려있다는 믿음."
바로 이것이 믿음의 영점 조준이다. 단순하다. 그런데 이 단순한 진리를 삶에 적용하는 청년은 드물다. 이 믿음만 있으면 하나님께 ‘올인‘(All In)할 수 있다. 우리가 하나님께 전부를 걸면 하나님은 우리의 전부가 되어주신다. - P62

"예수님을 네 인생의 구주로 영접하지 않겠니?"
미니는 "‘"라고 대답했다(그러겠다는 의미였다). 그녀는 10년이상 죽음의 공포와 우울증에 시달리며 하루도 수면제 없이는 잠을 잘 수 없었다고 털어놓았다. 사랑했던 사람들의 갑작스런 죽음을 여러 번 경험하며 죽음에 대한 두려움이 그 삶을 완전히 억누르고 있었다.
그런데 그녀가 예수님을 구주로 영접하겠다며 "‘"라고 말하는 순간, 말할 수 없는 기쁨과 자유가 찾아왔노라고 눈물로 고백했다. 나는 하나님께서 행하신 경이로운 일 앞에 말로 다 형용할 수 없는 영적 환희를 느끼며 쉽게 말을 이어갈 수 없었다.
다음날 미나가 잔뜩 상기된 목소리로 전화를 걸어왔다. 10년만에 처음으로 수면제 없이 한 번도 깨지 않고 깊은 잠을 잤다며기뻐했다. 나는 조심스럽게 이야기를 꺼냈다. - P67

당시 예배 인도자를 설교자로 세우는 일이 없었고, 더욱이 여성 사역자를 공동체 담당자로 세운 선례가 없었기에 발령 소식에기뻐하지 않을 이유가 없었다. 감사하지 않을 이유도 없었다. 큰은혜요 기회였다. - P71

그분은 최상의 ‘조건‘을 허락하시는 게 아니라 ‘변화‘를 약속하신다. 우리가 준비된 사람으로 서서 그분이 이루실 무한한 변화를 꿈꾸길 바라신다. 그리고 그 변화의 주역이 바로 우리 자신이길 원하신다.
또한 우리를 단지 가능성의 땅에 세우기보다 우리 자체가 그분의 가능성이길 원하신다. 척박하고 황폐하며 무너진 곳을 보수하여 기필코 길을 내고 그곳을 끝내 영적 거주지로 일궈내는믿음의 사람, 믿음의 사람들은 모두 이 가능성의 사람‘이다. - P77

기도했기에 반드시 성공이나 부흥이 따라오길 기대하는 건 신앙의 심각한 함정이다.기도의 헌신과 부흥의 상관관계는 늘 필연적이지만, 부흥이 기도에 뒤따른다는 기대는 매우 위험하다.  - P80

기도는 그저 하나님 앞에 선 영혼의마땅한 태도이고, 가장 건강한 존재 방식이다. - P81

예배는 하나님과의 관계성을 드러낸다. 어떻게 예배하는지를보면 어떻게 사는지가 보인다. 하나님을 향한 목마름, 갈망, 사랑의 온도, 집중력, 관계적 친밀함, 전부를 쏟는 충분한 몰입, 이모든 것이 예배 안에 여실히 드러난다. 적당히 예배하면서 최상의 삶을 기대하지 마라. 예배에 소홀하면서 삶을 자신하지 마라.
그 삶은 겉만 번지르르할 뿐이다. - P81

하나님께서는 이 시기에 아주 중요한 사역 원칙과 전략을 가르쳐주셨다. 정체기에 느끼는 불안을 다른 사역이나 대체 활동으로해소하려 하지 말고, 본질로 돌아가라고 말이다.
‘오로지 기도에 집중해라. 대안을 찾지 마라. 대체 활동을 늘리지 마라. 요란한 행사로 시선을 끌지 마라. 얄팍한 전략을 끌어들이지 마라.‘ - P83

눈송이가 하나하나 쌓일 때, 그 하얗고 솜털 같은 것들에서는육중한 무게감이 느껴지지 않는다. 그러나 수북하게 쌓여 임계점을 넘는 순간, 그 무게를 지탱하던 것들이 와르르 무너지곤 한다.
간절히 기도해도 현실에 아무런 변화가 없을 때 의심과 회의감이 밀려들지만, 그럼에도 기도 쌓는 일을 포기해서는 안 된다. 기도의 임계점을 넘어서는 순간, 마치 수북이 쌓인 눈이 견고한 무언가를 한순간 무너뜨리듯이 기도도 불가능을 무너뜨리기 때문이다. - P85

우리는 인생 가운데 답이 보이지 않는 문제를 숱하게 만난다.
그럴 때 답을 쉽게 쓰지 못하거나 문제 풀이 자체를 포기하는 사람이 태반이다. 어려운 수학 문제에 머리가 아프듯이 답이 보이지않는 삶의 문제 앞에서 영혼은 진통을 겪는다. 하지만 미지의 수학 문제를 풀 때 답을 찾아가는 과정에서 뉴런이 왕성하게 생성되고 지적 능력이 계발되듯이,  - P105

하나님의 뜻을 구하는 영혼의 신음을 통해 영적 세포도 활발히 생성되고 영성도 계발된다.
이 문제 풀이 과정은 바로 기도의 씨름이다. 하나님의 뜻과 계시는 객관식 답안처럼 주어지지 않는다. 엎드려 머물러야 한다.

The Christian faith is a journey of trust and discovery. Scripture teaches that "we liveby faith, not by sight" (2 Cor. 5:7). We may not know exactly wherewe are going, but we trust that as we move forward with hearts look-ing upward, God will lead us every step of the way. - P105

We can hear the senseof urgency in Peter‘s words as he appeals to the crowd that has gathered.

Lord, continue to pour out Your Spirit in these last days before Your return.

When God‘sSpirit moves among His people, empowering them as His witnesses,
others will notice. Their responses, however, are always mixed. Somerespond in wonder, recognizing that something divine is happening.
Others react cynically, explaining away divine empowerment as a cheapparlor trick or as the behavior of people who are not in their rightminds.  - P108

The gospel message will not always be welcomed or accepted.
Our responsibility as disciples is to seek the empowering of the Spirit aswe testify to the good news of Christ.  - P108

This passage serves as a bridge between the ascension of Jesus and theoutpouring of the Holy Spirit. Two things stand out.  - P104

First, we learnthat Jesus‘ brothers are now among His disciples. The brother theyrejected as Messiah during His lifetime on earth is now their Lord.  - P104

Thesecond and often overlooked fact is that this small circle of disciplesmakes up what would later become the Early Church.  - P104

At first, thisgroup of a hundred and twenty men and women is all that is left ofJesus‘ followers. But from these humble beginnings, God will raiseupa mighty, Spirit-empowered people.  - P104
