33 Even after this, Jeroboam did not change his evilways, but once more appointed priests for the highplaces from all sorts of people. Anyone who wanted tobecome a priest he consecrated for the high places. - P45

The old prophet rec-ognizes that this is the consequence for the man‘s disobedience. Whennegative events happen to us or those closest to us, we cannot alwaysbe certain as to why they happen. However, we can be assured that ourGod is Lord over all and that He desires the best for us. - P46
We may not beable to control our circumstances, but we can control our response toHim and His word. - P46
May we learn from the mistakes of both the oldprophet and Jeroboam, being quick to recognize our sins and willingto change our ways. - P46
Because we are created in the image of God, we are communal beingsby nature; we take after our Triune God who is always in perfect com-munity. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Thus, we glorify God when wedo life together with other Christians and practice the wisdom of Godin our mutual caring and accountability. The downside is that we canalso use our communal nature in conjunction with our sinful nature.

The rebellious heart is never satisfied with going astray alone; it stilldesires community. So we try to normalize our sin by having our peersfollow, perhaps to quiet the dissonance the wayward soul feels whenin rebellion against God.

Our world today is becoming ever trickier to navigate as truth is ac-cused of being a lie, and lies are repackaged as truth. We do not fare)well when we try to fly alone, but in God‘s wisdom, we can discernthe truth as we fly together. - P47
