3 So they sent for Jeroboam, and he and the whole as-sembly of Israel went to Rehoboam and said to him:4 "Your father put a heavy yoke on, us, but now lightenthe harsh labor and the heavy yoke he put on us, andwe will serve you." - P22
8 But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave himand consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him. - P23
10 The young men who had grown up with him replied,
"These people have said to you, ‘Your father put a heavyyoke on us, but make our yoke lighter.‘ Now tell them,
‘My little finger is thicker than my father‘s waist.
11 My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make iteven heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I willscourge you with scorpions." - P23
Great leaders often do not make decisions rashly andcompletely on their own. Rehoboam‘s initial response reminds us of thevalue of taking some additional time to seek the advice of wise,peoplearound us. This will help us determine the best way forward in some oflife‘s most challenging situations. - P24
When seeking advice, we should be wary of simplygoing to others to hear what we have already decided in our hearts.
A humble attitude can allow us
to access true wisdom and to recognizewhich approach is a godly one. - P24
