Knowing that this is likely the last time he speaks to the church eldersin person, Paul passes on the torch of leadership to these trustworthymen. He commands them to keep watch over themselves and the flock, calling them to be shepherds over the church of God. - P72
Paul also remindsthem that the gospel will continue to be attacked from both within andoutside the church. It is therefore vital that these leaders stay alert andprotect the truth of the gospel with their lives. - P72
In his parting words, Paul emphasizes generosity exemplified by hisown life and commits the elders to God and to the word of His grace. - P72
Because God is a generous God who has proven His self-giving love tous, our lives should reflect His love in both heart and action. - P72
This lovewas the essence of Jesus own teachings and is the core of what unitesbelievers together. Bonds created in God‘s love are powerful, and we feelthis most strongly when the circumstances of the world pull us apartfrom those we love in Christ. - P72
But the beauty of Christian friendship isthat our goodbyes are never final-we will one day be reunited in glory, in the presence of our Lord. - P72
