The psalmist is surrounded by troubles and overtaken by sin. His heart isfailing, so he calls to the Lord to come save him. - P51
He asks that all who desirehis ruin be put to shame and that all who seek God rejoice and be glad inHim. - P51
The psalmist confesses that he is poor and needy and that God is hishelp and his deliverer. - P51
16 But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you;those who long for your saving help always say, "The LORD is great!" - P51
The psalmist says that his distress has multiplied around him and threat-ens to envelop him completely. - P52
Moreover, he is so conscious of his sinsthat his heart fails him. His lament may sound somewhat exaggerated, but it accurately captures what it feels like to be overwhelmed by trou-bles. - P52
In moments like this, other people might accuse us of overreactingor being dramatic, but God understands exactly how we feel and hascompassion on us. - P52
Therefore, when we find ourselves in an extremelydistressing situation, we should not hesitate to cry out for God to quick-ly come to our help. - P52
We can be confident that He is willing and able tosave us because His love and faithfulness have never failed us. - P52
When God saves, He does so completely and unambiguously. Just asDavid prays for vindication from his enemies and rejoices in the Lord, - P52
we, too, should expect our lives as Christians to be marked with joyfulvictory over sin and the damaging patterns of our past. - P52
Because of whatJesus has accomplished through His death and resurrection, we are newcreatures, clothed in His righteousness and indwelt by His empoweringSpirit. - P52
At the same time, we should also recognize that we are poor andhelpless before the Lord and completely dependent on His deliveranceas long as we live in this broken world. - P52
Let us join with the psalmisttoday and declare that our Deliverer is great! - P52
