28 "My silver has been returned," he said to his broth-ers. "Here it is in my sack." Their hearts sank and theyturned to each other trembling and said, "What is thisthat God has done to us?" - P30
33 Then the man who is lord over the land said to us,
This is how I will know whether you are honest men:Leave one of your brothers here with me, and take foodfor your starving households and go. 34 But bring youryoungest brother to me so I will know that you are notspies but honest men. Then I will give your brother backto you, andyou can trade in the land." - P31
36 Their father Jacob said to them, "You have deprivedme of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is nomore, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everythingis against me!" - P31
38 But Jacob said, "My son will not go down there withhis brother is dead and he is the only one left. Ifharm comes to him on the journey you are taking, youwill bring my gray head down to the grave in sorrow." - P31
Jacob‘s sons give their father a report of what happened in Egypt, andJacob sees that they have brought back the silver that they took to payfor the grain. - P32
In response, Jacob laments that everything is against himand blames his sons for all that he has lost. - P32
We can certainly understandthe old man‘s sorrow, and it is not unreasonable for him to find faultwith his sons. - P32
In the face of tremendous loss, it is human nature to takeout our grief on whoever we believe is the cause of our distress. - P32
But such a reaction will only cause more
hurt in an already painful situation.
Let us instead pour out our grief to God who heals the brokenhearted. - P32
