You can help your child when he asks you how to spell a word by asking:Does it look right?
How does the word start/end?
Have you seen that word somewhere else?
Does the word sound like another word that you know how to spell?
What sounds do you hear?
After your child attempts to spell the word, indicate which parts are correct andsupply the spelling of the whole word above or below. Allow children to takeownership of their writing by leaving their word.
