Reading the first few chapters of the book, I had no clue where this story was heading to. A good friend from one of my boolclubs presented me this book early December of 2021, saying that this one is a good story for the end of the year. Didn‘t know what she really meant until I finished reading over the half of the book. But there‘s a heart-warming twist which magically turns this story for the Christmas or New Year‘s Day sprit.

How the author gingerly touches a sensitive topic -- why we sometimes feel suicidal, why we do stupid things and why we need to keep living -- is very sophisticated. Enjoyed reading this one.

It just hurts so much at times, being human. Not understanding yourself, not liking the body you‘re stuck in. Seeing your eyes in the mirror and wonderingwhose they are always with the same question: "What‘s wrong with me? Why do I feel like this?"

She remembered when she used to read bedtime stories to the children, and Peter Pan declaring: "To die will be an awfully big adventure." Maybe for theperson doing it, Estelle thought, but not for the one who was left behind.

The four biggest little words one person, anyone at all, can say to another: It wasn‘t your fault.

Sometimes we don‘t need distance, just barriers.

They say that a person‘s personality is the sum of their experiences. But that isn‘t true, at least not entirely, because if our past was all that defined us, we‘dnever be able to put up with ourselves. We need to be allowed to convince ourselves that we‘re more than the mistakes we made yesterday. That we are all ofour next choices, too, all of our tomorrows.

Their mom felt crushed, because she thought the girls were worried she was going to stop loving them after the divorce. That everything was going to bedifferent now, that she‘d stop being theirs. It took ten minutes of sobbing and confused explanations before the monkey and the frog patiently cupped theirmom‘s cheeks in their hands and whispered: "We‘re not worried about losing you, Mom. We just want you to know that you‘re never going to lose us."
