This communal hymn written for Sabbath worship reminds God’s people that praise is both fitting and formative. The psalm celebrates God’s steadfast love, faithfulness, and mighty works, inviting worshipers to respond with joyful music and grateful hearts. The praise they offer is not driven by emotion alone but grounded in reflection on who God is and what He has done—especially as seen in creation and His sustaining care. Singing with instruments becomes a corporate testimony of gratitude and trust. In a time when worship can easily become centered on human feelings and experiences, this psalm redirects our focus to God’s character and deeds. True worship lifts our eyes beyond ourselves and anchors our hearts in the enduring goodness and faithfulness of the Lord. - P60

The psalmist draws a sharp contrast between those who live in covenantfaithfulness to God and those who reject His ways. The wicked may appearto prosper for a moment, but their success is shallow and short-lived.
They lack spiritual understanding and are described as senseless, unable toperceive God‘s purposes. In contrast, the righteous are likened to flourishingpalm trees and strong cedars of Lebanon-images of vitality, stability, andlongevity. Their fruitfulness comes from being planted in the house of theLord and abiding in His presence. Their lives testify that true strength andrenewal come from God alone. This passage reminds us to measure successnot by worldly standards but by faithfulness to God, whose rewards arelasting and secure. - P60

Gracious Lord, You are good and faithful in all Your ways. Teach my heart to delight in praising You for who You are and what You have done. May my worship honor You, renew my joy, and draw me deeper into grateful obedience. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen. - P61

11For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

12they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14"Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

15He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

16With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation."

- P55

God’s people can find shelter and security in Him. Just as a person finds relief in the shade on a hot day, the people of God can rest in the shadow of the Almighty. God is a strong, trustworthy refuge. If His people are in trouble, they can be confident that He will save them. - P56

Like a bird protecting its young, God is faithful to cover and protect His people. Sickness may feel like it is stalking around in the darkness, and thousands may fall under attack nearby, but God’s faithful will remain protected, and the wicked will surely face punishment for their deeds. - P56

When we seek refuge in the Lord, He becomes our sure protection, and we have nothing to fear as we are grounded in Him. - P56

The person who declares "The LORD is my refuge" and trusts in Himwholeheartedly will not only be protected but also have victory overfierce enemies. God guarantees salvation for those who love Him andacknowledge His name.  - P56

He will answer those who call on Him, and Hepromises His presence and deliverance when His people are in trouble.
We can find great comfort and confidence in this psalm, especially whenwe feel alone and under severe attack. We are reassured that when we love,
acknowledge, and call on the Lord, we will receive His salvation, protection,
and answer.  - P56

We can find hope and strength in knowing that our faithfulGod is our Protector, and His salvation is steadfast. - P56

Heavenly Father, You are my refuge and my fortress. I put my trust in You, knowing that You continue to protect, provide, and care for me. Guide me in knowing You more and growing in my love for You each day. In Your Son’s name I pray, amen. - P57

In an effort to ease my mind, I started focusing on building networks andfriendships in Thailand. At times, I found some situations overwhelming,
and I was unable to focus on the ministry and responsibilities ahead of mebecause I felt so emotionally, physically, and spiritually weak.
Amid the challenges, I struggled to focus on God. However, meditating onBible passages like this psalm reminded me of important and groundingtruths about the God I serve. He is my shelter and the shadow in which Ican find rest and peace. I was comforted as I remembered once again that,

12When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money,

13telling them, "You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’

14If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble."

15So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.

- P46

19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

5The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you."

- P43

8So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

9Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.

10Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

- P43

The two women are greeted with an opened tomb. At first, we maythink that the stone was rolled away so that the resurrected Jesus could exit.
However other places in the Gospels reveal that Jesus‘ resurrected bodycan move through closed doors and walls. The angel did not roll the stoneso that Jesus could come out but so others could go in.  - P44

The empty tombreveals that Jesus is exactly who He said He was. He is not just a prophet orpopular teacher and healer. He is the Son of God who was raised from thedead and has completed what the Father sent Him to do. We rememberthat the substance of our faith is real-based on eyewitness testimony andcarefully recorded through the generations so that we might know andexperience the joy of our salvation! - P44

Dear Jesus, Your resurrection fills us with great joy. Thank You that we cancome and worship You. Help us to respond to Your grace by walking withYou every day and telling others about You. In Your name, amen. - P45
