We obey the Lord out of love! Just as a child obeys a faithful parent who is loving and trustworthy, we obey the Father’s commands because we love, trust, and delight in Him. - P128

Jesus proclaims a revolutionary statement when He tells His disciples that He no longer calls them servants but friends. He explains that true, loving friends are those who are willing to lay down their lives for one another.  - P128

I love that story. The man is quoting Ephesians 1:4, which states, "For hechose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blamelessin his sight." All Christians agree that God chose to make a way for sinnersto be saved even before God said, "Let there be light" (Gen. 1:3). Godwas willing to pay the price to save humanity before any of us proved ourworth.  - P129

We know that God chose you and me not because we are smarteror better-looking-and certainly not because we are holier than others. Hechose us out of sheer grace! - P129

주님을 사랑하는 마음으로 하지 않는 섬김이 얼마나 이기적인지 알아야합니다. 하나님의 영이 하나님의 사랑을 우리 안에 부으실 때, 그리스도와 동일한 관심을 가지게 됩니다. 이 일치된 관심에서 우리는 ‘자신의 애착‘의 시험을 극복합니다. - P70

 "예수 그리스도는 자신의 유익을 추구하는 사람을 쓰실 수없습니다. 전적으로 예수님께 헌신되었다는 것은 자신의 유익을 위해 섬기지 않는다는 뜻입니다." 하나님을 사랑한다고 하면서 ‘자신의 거룩‘을 위해 세상과 멀리 떨어져 있다면, 하나님의 마음이 무엇인지 모르는 것입니다.  - P70

섬김은 한 생명이라도 더 얻기 위해 스스로 궁핍을 자처하는 것입니다. 성도의진정한 섬김은 생명을 얻는 것입니다. - P71

예수님이 제자들에게 가르쳐주신 섬김의 도가 있습니다. 하나님의 나라에서는 가장 위대한 사람이 모든 사람을 섬기는 종이 되어야 한다는 것이었습니다. "도의 진가는 복음을 가르치는 것이 아니라 제자들의 발을 씻는것입니다. 즉, 사람들에게는 중요하지 않지만 하나님께서 중요하게 여기시는것을 행하는 것입니다 - P71

 ‘빚진 자의 심정으로 섬기기를 각오했던 사도 바울의 고백을 기억하십시오. 우리가 다른 사람들보다 우월하다고 여기며 ‘내가 참아줘야지‘라고 생각한다면, 이것 역시 희생을 가장한 영적 교만이자 거짓 섬김이 될 수 있습니다. 우리의 무례함과 이기심, 죄악에도 불구하고 주님께서는 십자가에서 우리를 섬겨주셨습니다.  - P69

주님께서 보여주신 십자가 사랑이 섬김의 동기가 될 때, 우리는 기꺼이 다른 사람들의 ‘신발털이개‘가되어 섬길 수 있습니다.
