[오늘의 한문장] 부활의 아침을 향하여

사순절 첫날, 자신에게 물어보자. 나는 지금 어떤 기대와 기다림을 가지고 삶을 살아가고 있는가? 물론 우리는 40일 후에 만나게 될 예수님의 부활절을 기다린다. 하지만 조금 더 솔직해져 보자.  - P16

내가 진정으로 기대하고 기다리는 것은 무엇인가?  - P16

참된 신앙으로 바로잡고 싶다면, 위대한 신앙의 사람들이 기대하고 기다렸던 것과 내가 지금 기대하며 기다리는 것이 같은지,
아니면 다른지를 가장 먼저 점검해야 한다. 오늘 본문에 등장하는마리아는 결혼하지 않은 처녀였다. 그녀가 임신한다는 것은 당시의 문화로 볼 때 매우 위험하고 비참해질 수 있는 상황이 되는 것이다. 그런데도 그녀는 하나님을 찬양하고, 하나님께서 자신에게하신 일을 노래한다. - P17

 그 이유는 바로 하나님께서 마리아를 통해하시려는 놀라운 일에 대해서 그녀가 기대하고 기다리기로 결정했기 때문이다. 다시 말해서 하나님의 기대와 마리아의 기대가 일치한 것이다.  - P17

우리가 예수님을 믿으면서도 불평하고 원망하는 이유는 하나님께서 나를 향해 가지고 계신 기대와 내가 가진 하나님
을 향한 기대가 일치하지 않기 때문이다. 그래서 우리는 그분을향해 감사도 찬양도 할 수 없고, 더 나아가 기다릴 수도 없는 것이다.

그러므로 이 시간 조용히 내가 하나님을 향해 바라는 수많은기대들을 내려놓고, 그분께서 나를 향해 바라시는 그 기대를 찾아보고, 들어봐야 할 것이다. 진정으로 역전된 삶을 살고 싶다면 기대가 역전되어야 한다.  - P17

22 Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, "Allow Davidto remain in my service, for I am pleased with him."

23 Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, Davidwould take up his lyre and play. Then relief would cometo Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit wouldleave him.

The Spirit of God departs from Saul and an evil spirit torments him. His ser-vants suggest he find someone who can play the lyre as this will make himfeel better.  - P129

Saul sends for David son of Jesse, and he becomes one of Saul‘s armor-bearers.  - P129

Whenever the evil spirit comes upon Saul, David plays the lyreand the evil spirit leaves him. - P129

Because of Saul‘s disobedience, God allows an evil spirit to tormenthim. His failure to obey the Lord‘s commands has cost him God‘sanointing, and the Spirit of the Lord has departed from him.  - P130

This oncegreat man who was the king of Israel now spends his days suffering,
unable to find relief.  - P130

This is a striking picture of what it looks like tolive apart from God. Although the salvation that Jesus won for us onthe cross can never be taken away, if we neglect God‘s commands, wewill find ourselves afflicted by sin‘s consequences.  - P130

When we fall into sin,
let us not make excuses like Saul did but quickly repent so that we canreceive God‘s forgiveness and be restored. - P130

David‘s reputation for being a man of God is spreading and has reachedone of Saul‘s servants.  - P130

When David is brought to Saul and begins playing his lyre,
 there is an immediate change in the atmosphere, and Saulfinds relief.  - P130

Although David‘s music is not expressly described as worship, 
it is safe to assume that he played with a worshipful heart as itcauses the evil spirit to depart.  - P130

When we worship, the words we singand the music we create have spiritual power.  - P130

Worship that is directedtoward God in praise brings peace and refreshment, not only to ourown hearts but also to all who hear it.  - P130

True worship that exalts Godcauses evil spirits to flee. - P130

[NIV] 1 The LORD said to Samuel, "How long willmourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king overIsrael? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I amsending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one ofhis sons to be king." - P124

7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider hisappearance or his height, for I have rejected him. TheLORD does not look at the things people look at. Peoplelook at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks atthe heart. - P125

10 Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, butSamuel said to him, "The LORD has not chosen these."
11 So he asked Jesse, "Are these all the sons you have?"
"There is still the youngest," Jesse answered. "He is tend-ing the sheep." Samuel said, "Send for him; we will notsit down until he arrives." - P125

12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He wasglowing with health and had a fine appearance andhandsome features. Then the LORD said, "Rise andanoint him; this is the one." 13 So Samuel took the hornof oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers,

12 So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And theLORD said, "This is the one; anoint him." 13 So as David stood there among his broth-ers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with theoil. And the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David from that day on. ThenSamuel returned to Ramah. - P125

The Lord tells Samuel to fill his horn with oil and go to Jesse of Bethlehem.
Samuel invites Jesse and his sons to sacrifice to the Lord with him.  - P125

The Lordinstructs Samuel not to look at appearance or height, and when Jesse‘s young-est son David is brought in, God tells Samuel to anoint him.  - P125

From that day on,
the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. - P125

In this age dominated by visual media, we are more than ever obsessedwith physical beauty.   - P126

This is nothing new, however. Even Samuel, arighteous man of God, shows that he is susceptible to this as he hastilyconcludes that Eliab, Jesse‘s oldest and more impressive-looking son,
must be God‘s choice for the kingship. - P126

The Lord‘s response to Samuelis something we all need to hear: God does not look at the outwardappearance but at the heart.  - P126

He cares about where our affections lie,
how faithful and obedient we are, and who or what we are worshiping.
- P126

Therefore, we should not only examine our own hearts but also seek tolook beyond the appearances of others before reaching our conclusions. - P126

When Samuel asks Jesse if he has another son, Jesse treats David as amere afterthought. David, the youngest of eight sons, is tending thesheep and is therefore out of sight and out of mind.  - P126

But we are not todespise humble beginnings because God often chooses the lowly toaccomplish His great plans.  - P126

The Lord tells Samuel to anoint David, andfrom that day, he is empowered by the Holy Spirit.  - P126

This anointing doesnot point to anything extraordinary about David himself. Rather, Godis equipping David so he can serve as the leader of Israel.  - P126

The Lord doesthe same with each of us: He fills us with the Holy Spirit, who leads andempowers us to be a blessing to those around us. - P126
