"이것이 바아사에게 일어난 일이다. 하나니의 아들 예언자 예후를통해 하나님의 말씀이 그와 그 정권에 임한 것은, 그의 삶이 하나님앞에서 공공연하게 악을 행했고 하나님을 몹시 노하게 했기 때문이다. 하나님께서 여로보암을 망하게 하셨는데도, 바아사는 여로보암을 그대로 따랐다. - P389

오므리와 군대는 곧바로 깁브돈을 떠나 디르사를 공격했다. 시므리는 자신이 포위되어 죽은 목숨이나 다름없게 된 것을알고 왕궁 성채에 들어가 불을 지르고 죽었다. 그의 죄에 걸맞은음이었다. 그는 하나님 보시기에 지극히 악하게 살았고, 여로보암의뒤를 따라 죄를 지었을 뿐 아니라 이스라엘까지 죄로 끌어들였다.

29-33 유다의 아사 왕 삼십팔년에, 오므리의 아들 아합이 이스라엘의왕이 되어 사마리아에서 이십이 년 동안 다스렸다. 오므리의 아들아합은 이전의 어떤 왕보다도 더 공공연하게 하나님 앞에서 악한 일을 저질렀다! 그는 악행의 일인자였다! 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄를 반복하는 정도에서 멈추지 않았다. 그는 시돈 왕 엣바알의 딸 이세벨과 결혼했으며, 더 나아가 바알 신을 섬기고 예배했다. 사마리아에 바알을 위한 신전을 짓고 그 안에 바알의 제단을 두었다. 또한창녀 여신 아세라의 산당까지 지었다. 그를 향한 하나님의 진노는이스라엘의 선왕들을 모두 합한 것보다도 더 컸다.

24 여인이 엘리야에게 말했다. "이제야 당신이 거룩한 사람인 것을알겠습니다. 당신의 말씀은 참된 하나님의 말씀입니다!" - P393

사탄은 하나님이 결정권자이고 모든 권력을 소유하고 있다는 사실에 분개하기 때문에, 그가하는 모든 말 배후에 놓여 있는 핵심 주장은 이것이다. 하나님이 되는 것이 전부다. 그것이 정말 중요한 전부다. 하나님을 의지하는 피조물이 되는 것은 피해야 하고, 맞서 싸워야 하며 기피해야 할 상태다. 그러므로 너의 인간됨을 거부하고 하나님이 되어라! - P49

We find here a conclusion to the first wave of persecution experienceby the Early Church. Luke describes it as "a time of peace." It is alsotime when the church grows stronger and larger in both numbers andspiritual power.  - P74

In this chapter of the Early Church‘s history, we findtheme that is repeated throughout the New Testament and continuesin the church today. As followers of Jesus, we are destined for trialand tribulations in the world.  - P74

But our Lord has promised that He willovercome the world and its dark powers set against His kingdom. Trialswill come and go in our churches and lives, but one thing is certain; wewill be victorious! - P74

Peter travels about the country and heals a man named Aeneas in Lydda whohad been paralyzed for eight years. Everyone in that area turns to the Lord asa result.  - P77

In Joppa, a faithful disciple named Tabitha dies, so Peter is urged togo to her. Peter prays over Tabitha, and she opens her eyes. Many people inJoppa believe in the Lord when they hear about this. - P77

Peter visits the town of Lydda where he finds a man named Aeneas whohas been paralyzed for eight years. Peter assures him that Jesus will healhim and then commands him to get up.  - P78

The God who miraculouslyhealed Aeneas is still at work today.  - P78

He works through believers likeyou and me to share His love and grace to those who need it.  - P78

His heal-ing power extends to more than just physical illness to anything thathinders His people from being what He intended them to be.  - P78

Let usnever hesitate to prayfor someone who is in need.  - P78

And as was the casewith Aeneas, may all who witness the power of Christ through us turnto Him and find salvation. - P78

The Lord appears to a disciple named Ananias in a vision and tells him to seekout Saul.  - P69

When Ananias hesitates, the Lord tells him Saul is His chosen instru-ment to reach both the Gentiles and the Jews. Ananias obeys and meets Saul.
He places his hands on Saul and Saul is able to see again. Saul immediatelystarts preaching that Jesus is the Son of God. - P69

Two times in this passage, God commands Ananias to "go." Ananias‘sreluctance is easily understood. The Lord is asking him to walk intoproverbial lion‘s den.  - P70

The name "Saul of Tarsus" is well known amongthe followers of Jesus and feared! But just as God chose Saul, He nowchooses Ananias to pray for the healing of this formidable enemy of thechurch.  - P70

Perhaps it is the Lord‘s words describing Saul as a chosen instrument and a man who will suffer greatly for His name that persuadesthis reluctant disciple to do as commanded.  - P70

We cannot be sure. Whatwe do know is that Ananias obeys. Where is God telling you to go? Maywe trust in His plans and respond in obedience. - P70

After his visit from his new brother in Christ, Ananias, Saul wastes notime in proclaiming Jesus as Lord in the synagogues throughout Da-mascus.  - P70

His years of training in the sacred Scriptures, together with themiraculous opening of both his physical and spiritual eyes, equip him asa powerful spokesperson for Jesus the Messiah.  - P70

There are people in ourlives today whom God is preparing to do great things in His kingdom.
Often these people, like Saul, seem like an unlikely choice. Andyet over and over, God surprises us.  - P70

Just as Saul‘s eyes were opened, we need
to ask God to grant us eyes of faith to recognize those around us withgifts and abilities that can further the kingdom. - P70

Lord, help me to see others as You see them, knowing that those who oftenappear hopeless and lost may very well become some of the greatest servantsin Your kingdom. In Jesus‘ name, amen. - P71

[NIV] 23 After many days had gone by, there was a con-spiracy amongthe Jews to kill him, 24 but Saul learnedof their plan. Day and night they kept close watch onthe city gates in order to kill him. - P72

Some Jews conspire to kill Saul, but he finds out and escapes. He joins the dis-ciples in Jerusalem after Barnabas tells the disciples about Saul‘s conversion.

For some time, the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria enjoyspeace and is strengthened as it grows in numbers. - P73

When the Lord sent Ananias to pray for Saul of Tarsus, He declaredthat this former persecutor would suffer greatly for Jesus.  - P74

And in thispassage, we see this prophetic word unfold in Saul‘s life. In Damascusand Jerusalem, Jews plot to kill Saul. But in both situations, he is deliv-ered through the efforts of other believers.  - P74

We also see the beginning ofa growing friendship between Saul and another Jewish believer calledBarnabas. It is Barnabas who persuades the apostles that Saul the fear-some persecutor is now a fearless follower of Jesus.  - P74

Throughout thispassage, we see the body of Christ at work. As we face challenges andopposition in our ministry, let us lean on one another just as the EarlyChurch did. - P74
