I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

16Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. - P96

Jesus then hints at the betrayal He will soon suffer. - P97

In the past, the disciples often argued over who was the greatest, but Jesus challenges them to demonstrate true greatness, which is found in humble, selfless service. Jesus teaches us that loving and following Him means living as He lived—with humility, love, and a heart to serve others - P98

Our relationship with Jesus is reflected in how we treat people. The call to follow Christ is a call to serve even in the most mundane tasks. - P98

Jesus addresses the impending treachery by Judas Iscariot. Although Jesus is fully aware that His disciple will ultimately betray Him, He does not exclude Judas in the washing of the disciples’ feet. Instead, Jesus explains that the betrayal is the fulfillment of Scripture, and He warns His disciples in advance so that their faith will not be shaken when it happens.  - P98
