17 Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying at En Rogel. Afemale servant was to go and inform them, and theywere to go and tell King David, for they could not riskbeing seen entering the city.
18 But a young man saw them and told Absalom. Sothe two of them left at once and went to the house ofa man in Bahurim. He had a well in his courtyard, andthey climbed down into it. - P74
21 After they had gone, the two climbed out of the welland went to inform King David. They said to him, "Setout and cross the river at once; Ahithophel has advisedsuch and such against you.,,
22 So David and all the people with him set out andcrossed the Jordan. By daybreak, no one was left whohad not crossed the Jordan. - P75
23 When Ahithophel saw that his advice had not beenfollowed, he saddled his donkey and set out for hishouse in his hometown. He put his house in order andthen hanged himself. So he died and was buried in hisfather‘s tomb. - P76
29 honey and curds, sheep, and cheese from cows‘ milkfor David and his people to eat. For they said, "Thepeople have become exhausted and hungry and thirstyin the wilderness." - P77
Hushai sends a message to David informing him of Absalom‘s plan. Then, the king and his people swiftly cross the Jordan. - P75
When Ahithophel sees thatAbsalom did not take his advice, he hangs himself. - P75
Meanwhile, Absalomappoints Amasa over his army. David arrives at Mahanaim, where Shobi, Makir, and Barzillai bring him useful items and nourishing food for his people. - P75
God is at work to save David‘s life from the hands of Absalom but theroad to salvation is not an easy one. - P78
The messengers who are sent towarn David are seen by one of Absalom‘s men, so they are forced tohide in a well. Thankfully, they are not found and manage to reach KingDavid and advise him to cross the Jordan River. - P78
In our own journeywith God, even when we walk according to His commands, there willsurely be obstacles and opposition along the way. - P78
But God never leavesus. - P78
He is present with us in the darkness of the waiting and carries ussafely through raging currents. He will ensure that we make it to ourdestination. - P78
When Ahithophel sees that his advice was not taken and realizes thatAbsalom will most likely be defeated by David, he decides to end hislife. - P78
He placed all his hope in Absalom‘s success and sees no other rea-son to live once that hope is lost. - P78
Ahithophel‘s tragic end shows ushow foolish it is to place one‘s hope in another person. No matter howimpressive that person may seem, they are just another sinner with flawsand failings that will ultimately disappoint us. - P78
God alone is worthy ofour trust and our hope. He will never fail us; He will never forsake us. - P78
Let us place our trust in Him because those who hope in the Lord willnever be put to shame. - P78
