28 Later, when David heard about this, he said, "I andmy kingdom are forever innocent before the LORD concerning the blood of Abner son of Ner.
29 May his blood fall on the head of Joab and on hiswhole family! May Joab‘s family never be without someone who has a running sore or leprosy or who leans ona crutch or who falls by the sword or who lacks food." - P95
Joab hears what happened between Abner and David. He rebukes the king, saying Abner came to spy on him. - P95
Joab reaches out to Abner privately andmurders him to avenge his brother Asahel‘s death. - P95
When David hears aboutthis, he curses Joab and mourns for Abner. So, the people knew David hadnothing to do with Abner‘s murder. - P95
31 Then David said to Joab and all the people withhim, "Tear your clothes and put on sackcloth and walkin mourning in front of Abner." King David himselfwalked behind the bier. 32 They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king weptaloud at Abner‘s tomb. All the people wept also. - P96
36 All the people took note and were pleased; indeed, everything the king did pleased them. - P97
39 And today, though I am the anointed king, I amweak, and these sons of Zeruiah are too strong for me. May the LORD repay the evildoer according to his evil 39 And even though I am the anointed king, these two sons of Zeruiah-Joab andAbishai-are too strong for me to control. So may the LORD repay these evil men fortheir evil deeds." - P97
