A woman pours expensive perfume over Jesus‘ head. The disciples think thisis a waste of money. Jesus tells them they will always have the poor with thembut not Him. - P37
He says that the woman‘s act prepared Him for burial and will betold wherever the gospel is preached. Later, Judas Iscariot agrees to deliverJesus to the chief priests for thirty pieces of silver. - P37
The woman who poured the perfume on Jesus‘ head could not haveknown the significance of her act of devotion-much less so the disci-ples, who scorned her offering as wasteful. - P38
Jesus rebukes their criticalattitude and says the woman has done a beautiful thing by preparingHim for burial. - P38
The things we do out of love for Christ may not always seem worthwhile in the eyes of others. But just like the woman atBethany, let us not hold back in expressing our devotion to Jesus. - P38
Hemay have a deeper, unseen purpose for our acts of worship. We can beconfident that anything done out of a genuine heart of love for Christwill bless and glorify our Lord. - P38
In stark contrast to the woman‘s extravagant devotion toward Jesus, Ju-das Iscariot is only interested in what he can gain from his relationshipwith Jesus. - P38
The chief priests offer thirty pieces of silver, which was nota large sum of money. Clearly, neither the chief priests nor Judas thinkvery highly of Jesus‘ worth and are only concerned with the short-term profit they can make. - P38
They are tragically blinded toward the matchless worth of knowing Jesus Christ and the eternal blessings He offers. - P38
These blessings cannot be measured or bought but are received by faithalone. - P38
Let us not pursue self-interest or worldly riches but instead storeup treasures in heaven by giving Christ our full devotion. - P38
