3 The commanders of the Philistines asked, "Whatabout these Hebrews?" Achish replied, "Is this not Da-vid, who was an officer of Saul king of Israel? He hasalready been with me for over a year, and from the dayhe left Saul until now, I have found no fault in him." in horo?" - P142
5 Isn‘t this the David they sang about in their danc-es: ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens ofthousands‘?" - P142
10 Now get up early, along with yourwho have come with you, and leave in the morning assoon as it is light." 11 So David and his men got up early in the morning togo back to the land of the Philistines, and the Philistineswent up to Jezreel. - P143
David marches with the Philistine army. The Philistine commanders ask Achishabout David and his men, and Achish assures them that he has found no faultin David. The commanders become angry because they think David will turnagainst them during battle. - P143
So, Achish tells David to turn back. David and hismen get up early in the morning and go back to the land of the Philistines. - P143
David‘s future is at stake. If he fights with the Philistines against hispeople, Israel, he will be branded a traitor. We cannot help but wonder, "Would David have actually fought against his own people?" Like-ly not. - P144
However, the very fact that he marches to battle with Israel‘s mortal enemies could lead to rumors and distrust that will threaten hisfuture as Israel‘s king. - P144
So, God steps in and delivers David from thisimpending disaster. And what God does for David is what He oftendoes for us. - P144
We serve a God who watches over us and redirects our pathstoward His, even during times when we make foolish choices that couldthreaten our future. - P144
How far is David willing to go to maintain his elaborate rouse as a servant of King Achish? He is certainly pushing things to the limits. - P144
Fortunately for David, the other Philistine commanders are not as trustingas Achish. Was David counting on the distrust of the other leaders? We do not know. David‘s train of thought is not clearly revealed here. - P144
What we do know is that God uses these Philistine commanders for Hispurposes. This is just one of many examples from Scripture of how Goduses all different kinds of people, places, and circumstances to work Hiswill in our lives. - P144
As we serve Him faithfully, we can be certain that Godwill work all things together for our good. - P144
Lord, when I am caught in what seems like an impossible situation, feeling lostand hopeless, teach me to look to You. - P145
Remind me that, as Your Word testifies, all things are possible for those who believe. In Jesus‘ name, amen. - P145
