20 "But I did obey the LORD," Saul said. "I went on themission the LORD assigned me. I completely destroyedthe Amalekites and brought back Agag their king. 21 The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God, in order to sacrificethem to the LORD your God at Gilgal." - P117
22 But Samuel replied: "Does the LORD delight in burntofferings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is betterthan the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is like the sin ofdivination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Be-cause you have rejected the word of the LORD, he hasrejected you as king." - P117
The Lord tells Samuel that He regrets having made Saul king because hehas turned away from Him. - P117
Saul makes the excuse that he spared the bestof the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to God. - P117
But Samuel replies that Saul hasdisobeyed the Lord. To obey is better than sacrifice. Because Saul has rejectedthe word of the Lord, God has rejected him as king. - P117
