20 So in the course of time Hannah became pregnantand gavegave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, "Because I asked the LORD for him." 20 and in due time she gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, for she said, "Iasked the LORD for him." - P120
21 When her husband Elkanah went up with all hisfamily to offer the annual sacrifice to the LORD andto fulfill his vow, 22 Hannah did not go. She said toher husband, "After the boy is weaned, I will take himpresent him before the LORD, and he will live therealways." - P120
27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted mewhat I asked of him. 28 So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole lifehe will be given over to the LORD." And he worshipedthe LORD there. to the Lorn his whole life." - P121
The Lord remembers Hannah, and she becomes pregnant and gives birthto a son. She names him Samuel. - P121
After Samuel is weaned, Hannah takes theboy along with a bull, an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine to the house ofthe Lord. After the bull is sacrificed, she brings the boy to Eli and says that sheis giving him to the Lord. - P121
The Lord remembers Hannah and gives her a son, and Hannah remembers her promise to God. - P122
The meaning of Samuel‘s name is "heard byGod" or "God hears." This name is a reminder not only of his mother‘sanswered prayer but of his own relationship with God: throughout hislife, Samuel hears God, and God hears Samuel. - P122
In many ways, Samuel‘slifelong relationship with God is the fruit of his mother‘s faithfulness. - P122
Hannah‘s care for Samuel and commitment to God are inseparablywoven together as she prepares for the day that she will entrust him inGod‘s hands. - P122
Likewise, our responsibility as parents or guardians is toraise our children to love the Lord and devote their lives to Him. - P122
The sacrifices we make and the gifts we give to the Lord result in bless-ings for us and others. - P122
Many Bible scholars believe that Hannah‘s sacrifice of a three-year-old bull points to Samuel‘s age when she giveshim to God. As Hannah offers her belovedupwho is still a smallchild, we witness her faith in God‘s provision and protection. - P122
