Jesus reprimanded the disciples:
 "Why are you such cowards? Don‘t you have any faith at all?" il noyThey were in absolute awe, staggered. "Who is this, anyway?" they asked. "Wind andsea at his beck and call!"  - P1228

Paul and his companions continue their travels. The elders of the church inEphesus come to Paul in Miletus, where he gives them a farewell speech. Herelates how he has served God faithfully by preaching about Christ to bothJews and Greeks. He shares that the Holy Spirit is compelling him to go toJerusalem even though hardship awaits him. - P67

Travel in Paul‘s day was nowhere near as easy and convenient as it is forus today. As we read about his journeys constantly on the road and atsea, traveling from one city to the next-t-we can only imagine the sacri-fices he would have had to make to live out his calling as a missionary.

But it was because people like Paul were willing to give their entire livesto serve God and go wherever He called them that the gospel spread soeffectively despite humble beginnings, and growing persecution.  - P68

A lifethat is fully committed to God and His mission still requires sacrificetoday.  - P68

It is a difficult journey and persecution persists, but God willbless His servants beyond measure when we heed His call.  - P68

This is a tender moment for Paul as he bids farewell to the elders of theEphesian church, not knowing what awaits him in Jerusalem.  - P68

Theseelders are eyewitnesses of all the blood, sweat, and tears Paul shed forthe church; they are his brothers and his spiritual children, so it is abittersweet realization that their ministry together is coming to an endand that God is calling Paul to a different journey.  - P68

Though one chapterin Paul‘s life is coming to a close, his purpose remains consistent: what-ever he does, it is to testify to the good news of Jesus Christ.  - P68

All of Paul‘swork is a response to God‘s calling, following the Spirit‘s guidance forhis next steps. Let us run our own races in the same way, following the aSpirit wherever He leads. - P68

Perhaps you now find yourself in a difficult season and are avoidingany attempt at sharing the gospel until you have a happier testimonyto tell.  - P69

But God is still God, and the good news is still good, both inour joys and in our sorrows.  - P69

Ask God to help you be more attentiveto how He accompanies you through the dark days. You might besurprised at how much you already have to share. - P69

When debates get loud and tempers flare, let us not forget thatGod can use something as simple as a respectful attitude to strengthenthe witness of His church. - P61

After the riot in Ephesus, Paul travels through Macedonia, then departsto Greece, and eventually returns to Macedonia as his plans to go toSyria are changed due to some Jews plotting to harm him. - P64

EverywherePaul goes, he intentionally makes an effort to encourage fellow believ-ers.  - P64

There are many people who accompany Paul in his journeys, andhe is never alone in his missionary endeavors. Paul‘s mission work hasalways involved partnership and fellowship with other Christians ashe recognizes the importance of unity and love among believers.  - P64

Asmembers of one body in Christ, we are called to practice our faith infellowship with other believers so that the world might recognize thelove of Christ in the love we display for one another. - P64

Paul breaks bread together with the believers in Troas, again demon-strating his sincere commitment to fellowship with his brothers andsisters in the faith.  - P64

Not long after, while Paul delivers a long sermon inupper room, a man named Eutychus who is sitting by a window onthe third story, dozes off and tragically falls to his death.  - P64

RemarkablyPaul raises him from the dead, and after this incident continues to eatwith and teach the believers. This miracle is yet another example of theHoly Spirit working powerfully within the Early Church, fortifying thefaith of the believers and establishing a sturdy foundation upon whichwe continue to build today. - P64

We know from Scripture that Paul could get impatient. While on trialbefore the Sanhedrin, he had to admit he had spoken rashly to thehigh priest (Acts 23:1-5).  - P65

His encouraging words do not arise froma naturally considerate personality. Yet in Acts 27, we see Paul aboarda boat that has been tossed about by a violent storm for two weeksand his serenity becomes an encouragement to the other passengers.
Though cold, soaked, and tired, Paul draws encouragement from Je-sus‘ promises (vv. 23-25).  - P63

Jesus‘ words are reason enough for him notto let himself be overwhelmed by the circumstances.  - P65

Demetrius, a silversmith who earns his living making shrines for theGreek goddess Artemis, begins an uprising against Paul. Through Paul‘spreaching, many people have turned away from worshiping other gods,

In our world today, thereare many industries whose profit depends on the continued worshipof idols such as beauty, money, and success.  - P60

A gospel that condemnsidolatry will always offend those who profit from it, but we must standstrong in our conviction: everything else is worthless when comparedwith the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus. - P60
