"죄는 엄연한 사실이지 어떤 결함이 아닙니다. 우리는 반드시 이 점을 인정해야합니다. 죄는 실제로 하나님께 대항하는 반란 행위입니다. 그리스도인의 삶에서하나님과 죄, 둘 중의 하나는 반드시 죽어야 합니다."  - P201

최초의 인간이었던 아담과하와가 하나님께 불순종하여 선악과를 따먹은 죄를 범한 순간, 그들의 삶에서 하나님의 다스림이 사라져 버렸습니다. 그때부터 그들은 하나님의 눈을 피해 도망하는 존재가 되었습니다. 눈에 띄지 않으면서 어떻게 다스림을 받을 수 있겠습니까? 하나님의 다스림을 떠났다면, 그것은 곧 죄의 영향 가운데로 들어가는 것입니다.

‘죄의 정점‘은 그리스도를 십자가에 못 박는 순간이었습니다. 그러나 예수 그리스도께서는 죄의 권세를 물리치시고 부활하셨습니다. 이 땅에서 하나님이 행하셨던 역사는 우리에게도 동일한 역사적 사실이 될 것입니다. 그리스도의 십자가가 없다면 죄의 실체를 인정하는 일은 절망일 것입니다. 죄를 이기신 십자가의능력을 믿을 때, 우리는 기꺼이 죄를 이기는 사람이 될 것입니다.

The psalmist recounts Israel‘s perpetual rebellion in the wilderness despiteGod‘s miracles. He recalls the plagues in Egypt and how God delivered themfrom their oppressors, led His people safely through the wilderness, andbrought them to the promised land, driving out nations before them andgiving them the land as an inheritance. - P120

40How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the wasteland!

41Again and again they put God to the test; they vexed the Holy One of Israel.

42They did not remember his power— the day he redeemed them from the oppressor, - P120

The psalmist is shocked that the Israelites continue to disobey God, especially considering how He repeatedly displayed His power with the ten plagues of Egypt. The psalmist lists the plagues to remind the people of all they should have remembered and all they should value in their response to the Lord. - P122

Likewise, when we ponder the Lord’s redemptive power in the stories of the Bible, in our own lives, and in the world today, our response should be to treasure Him. - P122

Most of all, we should meditate on the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, who was struck down for us so that we may live. When we remember what He has done, our faith is refueled to respond with even greater obedience and worship. - P122

After recounting the demonstrations of God‘s power in Egypt, the psalmistuses the imagery of a shepherd guiding his sheep to demonstrate the protec-tion and care that God displays toward His people.  - P122

God rescued the Israelites and guided them safely through the wilderness. He drove out nationsand settled His people into their inheritance.  - P122

They never had to be afraidbecause they knew that they were safe with Him. What a wonderful pictureof our God! He continues to shepherd us today, guiding and protecting uswith the help of the Holy Spirit.  - P122

We can be at peace because we are securein Him. Let us live fearlessly, knowing that He is with us. - P122

Heavenly Father, thank you for showing Your redemptive power in my life. - P123

I know I am secure because You are my Shepherd and my guide. Teach me to remain in this place of peace as I remember that You are always with me. In Jesus’ name, amen. - P123

[오늘의 한문장] 하나님의 시선

retaliation이 인간들 사이에서 벌어지는 보복의 행위라면, retribution은 신적인 권위에 의해 수행되는 정의의 행위로서의 응징 혹은 보상이라고 말하수 있습니다. 따라서 오늘의 말씀은 retaliation이 아닌 retribution의 차원에서해석해야 합니다. - P200

"예를 들어, 우리가 다른 사람을 비판할 때 우리 자신도 이미 죄를 지었다는 사실을 믿습니까? 우리가 다른 사람에게서 위선과 속임수와 거짓을 보는 이유는 바로 우리 마음속에도 똑같은 것들이 있기 때문입니다."

누군가를 비판하지 않는 성품은 바로 ‘겸손‘입니다. 겸손이란 무엇일까요? 우리가 하나님의 은혜를 입은 존재임을 아는 것입니다. 하나님의 은혜가 아니라면 우리 안에 있는 모든 더러운 것과 죄악이 이미 다 드러났을 것입니다. 하나님의 은혜 앞에서 우리는 한없이 겸손해집니다. 은혜를 아는 사람이라면 그 누구에게도비판할 권한이 없다는 사실 또한 알 것입니다.

그러므로 함께 살아가는 성도들의 공동생활에서 ‘겸손‘과 ‘비판‘은 대척점에 서있습니다. 겸손한 공동체에는 그리스도의 은혜가 드러나고, 비판이 난무한 공동체에는 그리스도의 십자가 사랑이 없습니다. 그러므로 우리는 누군가를 비판하는 혀를 조심해야 합니다.  - P200

35They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer.

Human nature is a paradox: even though they have seen many of God‘smighty and marvelous works, the Israelites persist in unbelief. They continue sinning, despite witnessing God‘s wonders and experiencing His de-liverance.  - P118

Spiritual transformation does not happen through witnessingexternal signs and wonders. The Israelites‘ pattern of turning their backs onGod then returning to Him only in times of distress reveals how people,
both past and present, often treat God as a backup plan rather than theirsupreme treasure.  - P118

Nevertheless, the crises we face also come from God‘smercy. They bring us to our knees when prosperity has hardened our hearts.

In spite of the Israelites‘ faithlessness, God restrains His anger and showscompassion. He is still the same today. When we realize our rebellion and backsliding, let us return to Him; He has promised to forgive us and healour waywardness. - P118

우리가 중보 기도를 할 수있는 이유는 예수 그리스도의...

우리가 중보 기도를 할 수있는 이유는 예수 그리스도의 완성된 구속 때문입니다. 우리를 ‘왕 같은 제사장‘
으로 삼아주셨기 때문입니다. 제사장은 자신의 일에 집중하는 사람이 아니라, 다른 사람을 대신해 하나님 앞에 나아가 기도하는 사람입니다.  - P199

우리는 우리의 문제뿐 아니라, 친구들을 대신해 직접 기도할 수 있는 ‘속죄의 권리‘를 가지고 있는사람들입니다. 그러니 이 사역을 제대로 감당해야 합니다.  - P199

"자신이 제대로 서 있는가를 알아보기 위해 끊임없이 자신의 내면 세계만 들여다보면 어느새 자기중심적인 병적 교인이 됩니다." 올바른 신앙의 자세는 왕 같은 제사장의 역할을 하며 친구와 성도들을 위해 중보 기도하는 것입니다.  - P199

우리 자신만을 생각하는 경향은 신앙의 병적 습관입니다.
우리가 해야 할 일은 자기 자신에 대한 것들을 자꾸만 떠올리는 것이 아니라, 자기의 모든 것에 대해서 죽는 것입니다. "우리가 의롭게 될 수 있는 유일한 곳은바로 예수 그리스도 안입니다.  - P199

주님 안에 거하게 되면 우리의 내적인 생명이 마음껏 중보 사역을 감당할 수 있도록 모든 힘을 다 쏟아부어야 합니다. 우리가 온전히 자유로워지는 것도 예수 안에서 이루어지는 일이요, 우리의 내적 생명이 마음껏 중보 사역을 감당할 수 있는 것도 예수 안에서 이루어지는 일입니다.  - P199

그리스도를 바라보는 자만이 그리스도의 일을 합니다. 하나님이 하신 일이 무엇인지를 보지 않고, 자꾸 우리의 내면을 바라보며 실망하지 마십시오. 그리스도께서우리를 위해 행하신 위대한 일에 시선을 고정하십시오. 그리고 우리를 왕 같은제사장으로 삼아주신 그 사명을 감당하십시오.
