살인과 간음은십계명의 주제이기도 합니다. 그야말로 돌에 새겼던절대적인 말씀인데도 예수님은 그 말씀을 다시 읽으십니다. 물론 그 말씀들을 무효로 만드시는 것이 아니라, 말씀의 목적과 기능을 완성하는 온전한 뜻을다시 설명하신 것입니다.  - P29

 먼저 나는 말씀을 안다고 생각하지만 사실은 잘못 알 수 있다고 인정하는 겸손한 사람이 되어야 합니다. 그리고 우리는 성경에 대한 새로운 이해를 비난받지 않고 편하게 나눌 수 있는 안전한 곳을만들어야 합니다. - P30

우선 팔복은 무엇보다 ‘복‘에관한 말씀인데, 기독교 신앙에서 복은 뜨거운 감자입니다. 더욱이 팔복의 첫 복은 가난과 하늘나라 (천국)를 주제로 하는데, 이 또한 만만치 않습니다. 그리고 개역개정에서 "심령"이라고 번역된 그리스어 ‘프뉴마‘는 그 자체로 다면적인 의미를 지니고 있을 뿐아니라 ‘심령이 가난하다‘는 표현의 의미에 대해서도다양한 설명이 있습니다.  - P45

‘바라크‘는 주어의 능동적 행위를 표현합니다. 이와 달리, ‘아슈레이‘는 번영하고 평화롭고 온전한 샬롬의 상태를 표현합니다. 요컨대 ‘바라크‘는 "타인에게 친절을 베풀거나 호의를 베풀거나 은혜를 끼치는 개념"에서 ‘복을 준...다‘는 의미인 반면에, ‘아슈레이‘는 "복을 주거나 시작하는 사람이 아니라 다른 사람에 의해 행복, 특권, 또는 행운이 누군가에게 주어진 상태를 나타내는 감탄의 묘사"로 "행복의 상태를 강조합니다. 주4또 이것은 다른 사람의 좋고 행복한 상태에 대한 진실한 축하와 인정을 표현하는 단어입니다. 팔복에서 ‘복되다‘로 번역되는 그리스어 ‘마카리오스‘는 복된 상태에 대해 감탄을 던지는 단어인 히브리어 ‘아슈레이‘의 의미를 그대로 담고 있습니다. - P47

Sacrificial lovewill look different for each person, What is important is that we showour Lord that He is more important and valuable to us than anything.
