「The Last Leaf」(마지막잎새)

I am not a girl who enjoy reading books very much. And I don`t know how to take pleasure in reading. But I`m deeply grateful to this book for the opportunity to give me an interest of reading books.

Sometimes I imagine how they feel when they fall down on the ground. Does it hurt them As the colors of leaves of different seasons differ, their feelings- I think - may also differ.

Since the Spring has a warm sunlight, it has a faithful, sincere, and sweet nature, but sometimes I think it could be compared to a cool-hearted man.

And Summer is so hot that it has a passionate nature, but it could be compared to a irritable man.

Since Fall is chilly and refreshing, it makes people comfortable, but it also has a loneliness, so it could be compared to a man of alienation.

Finally Winter is like a cool-hearted man. It is very clean and pure and it could be compared to a man with a ripening fruit. I brought up these things to talk about the story in " The Last Leaf" .

The Story starts from Black to Gray to finally White color. The more I read this story ,the deeper I could understand it. First time I read it, I couldn`t understand the meanings of it. The story is like this…

In a little district west of Washington Square the streets have run crazy and broken themselves into small strips called "places." One Street crosses itself a time or two. An artist once discovered a valuable possibility in this street. Sue living in this street got sick and suffered from pneumonia. Sue told her friend Johnsy "When the last one falls I must go, too".

Old Behrman was a painter who lived on the ground floor beneath them. He was past sixty and he also got pneumonia. Behrman was a failure in art. He had been always about to paint a masterpiece, but had never yet begun it. He was very sick like Sue.

"It is the last one, It will surely fall during the night. It will fall today, and I shall die at the same time." Said sue. When I read this line I could not bring myself to hold back my tears. But Sue did not die but Old Behrman died.

What happened to them

And Johnsy said to Sue "Look out the window, dear, at the last ivy leaf on the .. (압축파일)
