This book is about a boy named Caulfield.
At first I thought he was just a boy with a pessimistic view of the world. I could understand and empathize with his viewpoints. Nonetheless, as the story goes on, I started to get more annoyed of him because his pessimistic thoughts and actions got more and more irrational. He also kept sabotaging himself and breaking down. That's when I realized that he is just depressed.
It made me look back at the past when I was severely depressed as well. It made me wonder, was I like that too; irrationally pessimistic and breaking down over nothing? The answer was yes. That's why I could relate and empathize more to Caulfield. In the end, I was glad he was able to get out of it.
The book was not as good as I heard it was, but I could see why people like it. I could see that it could be consoling for some.
Overall, I feel like at one point in life, everyone goes through a period of time like Caulfield, and if you haven't, you are lucky.
