Mantovani - Film Encores (1959, London PS-124)
1953년 이미 Music of Victor Herbert 로 한 차례 1위를 차지한 적이 있는 만토바니는 1957년 발매되고 꾸준한 인기를 끌던 필름 앙코르 앨범의 스테레오 버전을 1959년 업그레이드 발매하면서 새롭게 만들어진 빌보드 (스테레오LP) 앨범차트 1위에 오르는 영광을 차지합니다. 1957년 모노버전 자체가 워낙 대단한 인기를 누리며 차트에 머물렀던 덕분이기도 하거니와, 영화음악에 있어서는 워낙 독보적인 만토바니 오케스트라의 위상이 컸던지라 이 앨범은 모노와 스테레오가 차례로 릴레이를 하며 앨범차트에 무려 231주간이나 등재되며 골드디스크를 획득하게 됩니다.
하지만 아쉽게도 만토바니의 앨범은 이후 다시는 앨범차트 정상 리스트에는 오르지 못하는데, 그렇다고 만토바니의 인기가 식었다고 할 수 없는 것이, 1972년까지 무려 49장에 달하는 음반을 발표하면서 지속적으로 활동을 했으며, 그중 11개를 탑10에 히트시키면서 7개의 골드디스크를 수상하는 등 여전한 인기를 과시했기 때문입니다. 팝 음악사에서 독특한 캐리어로 영화음악 장르의 거봉으로 기억될만 한 명반입니다.
CD로는 비교적 많은 버전의 필름 앙코르가 있으나, 개인적으로 볼 때는 2007년 Fine and Mellow (#601) 에서 발매된 것이 가장 완성도가 높은 것으로 추천합니다. 1955년 앨범인 Theatreland 전곡과 합본으로 CD 1장에 수록이 되었기에 다른 "필름 앙코르 + @" 방식의 것들과는 차별화가 되며, 또한 국내에서도 유통되고 있어 구하기 쉬운 잇점까지 가지고 있기 때문입니다.
