King Cole Trio - King Cole Trio

1940년대를 주름잡은 Nat King Cole이 주도한 King Cole Trio의 셀프타이틀 앨범입니다. 빌보드 앨범차트가 아직 체계가 잡히지는 않았지만 처음으로 발표되던 해인 1945년 역사상 첫 1위를 기록한 의미있는 LP로 현재는 자켓 조차 구경하기 힘든 귀하디 귀한 앨범이죠. 만일 소장하신 분이 있다면 앞으로 35년만 더 보관하시다가 100주년에 경매 내어 놓으시면 대박 맞으실 듯. 1945년 3/24-4/7, 4/21-4/28, 5/19-6/23, 8/4까지 11주간 1위를 기록하였습니다. 1943년부터 레코딩되어 실제 발매일은 1944년인지라 Capitol 카타로그 넘버도 무려 8번으로, 아마 짐작하기에 Capitol에서조차 원본구하기 힘들지 않을까 싶네요.

이 LP는 구할 수가 없기에 아쉬운대로 CD를 통해 그들의 당시 명곡들을 감상하기 위해서는 전집반을 통해서 들을 수 밖에는 없는데, 마침 알라딘에서 판매하고 있는 박스세트가 있네요.

[수입] Nat King Cole Trio - Transcriptions [Box Set]

3장짜리 수입반이라 가격이 좀 되지만, 캐피탈 레코드 시절의 스튜디오 트랙 71곡을 모두 수록한 전곡집이라서 상당히 의미가 있어 보입니다. 아울러 1930~40년대 상당수의 Nomber One Song을 이들이 가지고 있기에 이 전집반 하나면 초기 팝-재즈 역사에 발을 깊이 담근 셈이 되겠네요.
