월터 스콧(Walter Scott)은 스코틀랜드 태생의 영국 작가로<최후의 음유시인의 노래>, <마미온>, <호수의 여인>의 3대 서사시로 유명합니다. 1814년 익명으로 역사소설 <웨이벌리 Waverly>를 발표했는데 크게 호평을 받았습니다. 이후 익명으로 계속 소설을 발표했으며 1819년 <아이반호>를 출간했습니다.
