1948년 4월 빌보드 앨범차트 1위를 6주간 차지한 앨범은 Vaughn Monroe의 Down Memory Lane입니다. 1945년 On The Moonbeam 앨범으로 1위를 차지한 이래 3년만의 재등장인 셈이네요. 11948년은 위 앨범의 수록곡은 아니지만 싱글곡인 Ballerina가 빌보드 싱글차트에서 10주간이나 1위를 차지하는 등, 그의 음악활동 중 가장 사랑을 많이 받은 한해로 기억될 수 있습니다.

현재 구할 수 있는 CD버전은 이전 글에서 소개했던 것처럼 2000년 Jasmine 레이블을 통해 카타로그 넘범 371번으로 발매된 CD "On the Moonbeam/Down Memory Lane [Extra tracks]" 앨범이 있습니다. 이 CD에는 Vaughn Monroe의 "On The Moonbeam"과 함께 또 다른 앨범인 "Down Memory Lane"에 보너스 트랙까지 추가하여 발매한 것으로 21곡의 수록곡을 통해 Vaughn Monroe 명작의 순간을 감상할 수 있습니다.

1948년 3월 17일 성 패트릭데이를 포함한 주간에 빌보드 앨범차트 1위를 차지한 음반은 Bing Crosby의 St. Patrick's Day 입니다(오리지널 자켓사진을 구하기 어려워 LP로 대신합니다). 빙 크로스비의 앨범 중에서는 발렌타인 데이 앨범과 함께 양대 시즈널 앨범으로 대비되는 음반이이도 한 이 앨범은 1948년 등장하여 빌보드 앨범차트를 정복했으며 크리스마스면 어김없이 들려오는 그의 목소리를 생각한다면 가히 "Holiday 국민가수" 라고 할 수 있을 정도네요.

CD버전으로는 아주 매력적인 음반을 하나 발견했는데, 1996년 2월 27일자로 MCA에서 발매되었던 Top o' the Morning: His Irish Collection 앨범입니다. 24개의 수록곡을 빠듯하게 채워 넣은 이 앨범은 위 오리지널 수록곡 중 Rose of Tralee를 제외한 나머지 7곡과 함께, 그의 영원한 히트곡인 아이리쉬송 Danny Boy, Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral 등 더 많은 수록곡들로 가득차 있기에 아쉬움 없는 선택이 될 듯 합니다.

1948년 2/28~3/13까지 3주간 깔끔한 1위를 차지한 앨범은 Perry Como의 외모처럼 달콤한 제목의 A Sentimental Date With Perry 앨범입니다(자켓사진은 오리지널이 아니고 1952년 LP버전입니다.). 8개의 히트곡들을 모아 발매하는 컨셉으로, 수록곡 중에서 I`m Always Chasing Rainbows 는 1946년 싱글차트 5위에 골드디스크를 기록한 곡으로, 사실상 이 곡을 위한 앨범이 아닐까 할 정도의 기획이었습니다.

현재 CD버전으로는 동일한 타이틀과 자켓사진을 가진 Sentimental Date with Perry Como CD가 2001년 11월13일 Dutton Vocalion UK 레이블로 발매가 되어 있으나, 수록곡들을 꼼꼼히 챙겨보면 Love Me Or Leave Me과 Body and Soul 2곡만이 올라왔을 뿐이어서 아쉽기는 하지만 다른 대안도 별로 없기에 일단 소개드립니다.

1948년 1월 24일 새롭게 빌보드 앨범차트 1위를 차지한 앨범은 Dorothy Shay Goes To Town 입니다. 47년 1위를 차지한 Dorothy Shay Sings 앨범에 이어 연달은 히트로 47년 크리스마스는 그녀의 공적활동 기간 중 가장 빛나는 기간이 되었을 법 하네요. 다만 아쉽게도 이 앨범 이후로는 그녀의 이름을 찾아보기 힘들어지게 되며, 그녀를 대체할 새로운 디바는 한참을 기다려야 등장하게 됩니다..

역시나 CD버전으로는 앞에서 소개했던 The Park Avenue Hillbillie Sings Feudin' & Fightin'(2001년 1월 30일 발매,  Vintage Jazz Band (UK) #1954) 앨범이 가장 적합한 것으로 보이는데, 비록 수록곡 중 He's the One 한곡이 누락되기는 했으나 나머지 7곡이 모두 수록되어 있으며, 전작인 Dorothy Shay Sings에 수록된 8곡이 모두 포함되어 있기에 일거양득이라 할 수 있겠네요. (자켓사진 및 수록곡 리스트는 아랫 글 참조하시길 바랍니다.)

마지막 남은 한주, 1947년의 빌보드 앨범차트 1위를 차지한 앨범은 Glenn Miller의 히트곡집인 Masterpieces Vo.II 가 차지했습니다. 1947년 11/8, 1948년 1/17, 1/31~2/21까지 총 6주간이었네요. 스위재즈의 대표주자인 Glenn Miller의 이 앨범은 그의 불의의 사고이후 발매된 유작앨범들 중 하나로 4개의 78rpm 레코드로 발매가 되었으며, 총 8곡의 수록곡이 포함되어 있습니다.

현재 CD버전으로 정확하게 위 앨범을 복각해낸 음반이 있어 소개해 드립니다. CD 타이틀도 내용처럼 충실하게 Glenn Miller - Masterpieces 라는 앨범인데, Dutton Vocalion UK 레이블에서 2004년 11월 14일 발매한 CD로 본 앨범의 8곡을 포함, Glenn Miller와 America를 동시에 상징하는 명곡 In The Mood 등 총 24개의 Masterpieces 시리즈의 수록곡들을 포함하고 있어 더 없이 매력적인 CD입니다. 역시나 국내에서는 구하기가 어려워 아마존 링크를 올려드립니다.
