Aman learns his ex-girlfriend has had him literally erased from her memory and de-cides to get the same procedure done ... but has second thoughts as his mind is beingpurged. Ingenious, Oscar-winning screen-play by Charlie Kaufman (from a story byKaufman, Gondry, and Pierre Bismuth) isextremely well executed by director Gondry(and cinematographer Ellen Kuras), thoughthe film tends to cleverly dance around the roots of emotional and romantic pain ratherthan fully engage them. Carrey has neverbeen better; Winslet is (as always) excep-tional. [R]
