The Wild Robot by Peter Brown

Ch. 1. The Ocean

A violent storm struck the ocean, destroying almost everything in its path.

Out of five crates, only one remained afloat.

Inside that surviving crate, there was a robot.

Ch. 2. The Otters

Sea otters discovered the crate in a robot gravesite and became curious about it.

One otter accidentally pressed a small button on the robot’s head.

As a result, the robot powered on and opened its eyes.

Ch. 3. The Robot

The robot introduced herself as Roz after being activated.

She explained that she could learn, adapt, and improve over time.

With no clear purpose yet, she calmly waited for a task.

Ch. 4. The Robot Haches

After activating, Roz began to feel something like curiosity.

Drawn by this new feeling, she absorbed energy from the sun and became fully awake.

Then she broke out of the crate like a hatchling emerging from its shell.

Ch. 5. The Robot Gravesite

Roz talked to the otters, but they ran away across the robot gravesite.

Left alone, she explored the robot gravesite and noticed the word “ROZZUM” on a broken robot.

When the waves sloshed and engulfed her, she felt her survival instincts.

Ch. 6. The Climb

Roz was having trouble climbing the cliff at first, but she gradually got the hang of it.

She climbed like a crab.

In the end, she successfully reached the top and felt the soft ground beneath her feet.

Ch. 7. The Wilderness

The forest was not a comfortable place for Roz.

Roz stumbled on until she found a patch of flat ground.

It seemed safe, so she stood there, her perfect shape against the wilderness.

Ch. 8. The Pinecone

Roz was suddenly struck by a falling pinecone.

She felt slightly annoyed and looked for a safer location.

She realized that even the forest could be dangerous.

Ch. 9. The Mountain

To escape the falling pinecones, Roz climbed up a craggy mountain.

From the peak, she slowly looked around and discovered that she was on an island.

For the first time, she understood that the island was full of life — including herself.

Ch. 10. The Reminder

Roz didn’t know how she came to the island.

A hurricane sank the ship, and sea otters activated her by accident.

As far as she knew, the island was her home.

Ch. 11. The Robot Sleeps

On her first night on the island, she watched the sunset and the stars.

She listened carefully to the sounds of the nighttime creatures around her.

She switched off her nonessential programs and slept in her own way.

Ch. 12. The Storm

Roz spent a few days on the mountaintop.

When a huge storm hit the island, she slipped into a mudslide while searching for shelter.

She grabbed a pine tree and held on until the storm blew over.

Ch. 13. The Aftermath

When the storm ended, the island was covered with mud and water.

Although most animals survived, Roz was damaged and needed protection.

She found a cave on the mountainside and moved there for safety.

Ch. 14. The Bears

While entering the cave, Roz accidentally woke two sleeping bears.

They immediately chased her and tried to attack her.

Instead of fighting back, Roz suddenly disappeared from their sight.

Ch. 15. The Escape

To avoid the bears, Roz climbed onto a pine tree branch.

She threw pinecones and annoyed them without causing harm.

Eventually, the bears returned to their cave when their mother called them.

Ch. 16. The Pine Tree

After the danger passed, Roz remained on the pine tree branch.

However, sticky resin covered her body, and a robin attacked her to drive her away.

When the branch broke, she crashed to the forest floor.

Ch. 17. The Camouflaged Insect

Roz discovered a stick insect that looked exactly like a twig.

She carefully observed how perfectly it blended into its surroundings.

From this, she learned that camouflage could help her survive.

Ch. 18. The Camouflaged Robot

Using what she learned, Roz began to camouflage herself.

She disguised her body as plants and natural objects to blend into the environment.

Hidden in plain sight, she quietly observed the wilderness around her.

Ch. 19. The Observations

The island was full of life and activity.

Animals hunted, plants grew, and creatures changed.

The camouflaged robot observed it all.

Ch. 20. The Language of the Animals

When Roz first stomped across the island, the animal noises sounded meaningless.

After camouflaging herself and observing the creatures, she began to understand their common language.

Now she heard animal words instead of noises.
