This Benjamin Franklin's life epitomizes the better side of america.

His life is electrifying; starting from a humble background, then through "industry and frugality" with principles and contradictions, he made it to "leather apron" middle class. And for a spin off, he also founded a nation, raising funds with his friends, just as he had done to set up schools, libraries and fire stations. His eccentric life style stems from his belief that serving God is helping His children. He thrives by weaving together both private and public benefit. Proudly pragmatic or too practical, his ambivalence can be confusing sometimes. However, the balance was usually struck on time, and his life was kept from extremities. Final roles he played, at Constitutional Convention, created value by helping others compromise with each other. His life makes an inspiring story; a self taught employee without any capital becoming Dr.Franklin with the joy of comfortable and famous life. A success story of a middle class.

Through his life, Ben Franklin advocated such values that resonate even louder today. Serving fellow citizens with DIY approach is one. He didn't urge any authorities to pave local streets. He simply started with his friends to form a group and went to do it. It wasn't about fervent love of fellow creatures but was more about shared value "we" can create. He also promoted the spirit of industry, frugality, and more importantly, self complacency. He didn't really suffer from guilty feelings. He can be, more often than sometimes, contradictory. But, you know, being a humble human, what could he do? He just laughed at himself with self depreciating jokes, and that's how he got his humor going. A true self confidence. Politically, he made it clear democracy is the way to go. And as we can see how he maneuvered in France, he honored the honor, but always kept practical. Saying what's supposed and doing what's better is how he unfettered America from its shackles of religion and aristocracy.

He not only demonstrated an American dream, but he also set the core values of an American life.
