I read this book in Korean version at first, but as story goes on I felt the need of reading it in its original language so I lend "The Wife Upstairs" from the library.

I can't let of of the book until i reach the very last page. Didn't even notice the time ticking since the story was very fast-paced and irresistibly interesting. However I still did not get it is a retelling of Jane Eyre. Is it because the girl's name in the story is Jane? Just kidding.

I can't help myself becoming very realistic in some points such as, how Jane, I mean how Helen can keep pretending she's Jane and can be engaged and even get the fortune of Bea's? Is society system in the U.S.A. is that loose? Even though the book says Helen got away with Jane's ID card, but when real Jane died, they probably did some autopsy and confirmed that it is she, aren't they? This thing kept me uneasy till the very last part of the book.

Anyway, all those things went well for Jane, but it would be good if the author had tell more about the relationship between Jane and Helen. Helen love Jane, and Jane is the only friend she ever got, but there's not much story of it. If author showed more of their friendship - which probably about solidarity and love- then it would be a good contrast to the relationship that Bea and Blanche had.

Anyway, overall I truly enjoyed the reading. It was a very gripping novel, and I really appreciate it that good novels help me forget the hardness of the reality.
